Whisper Aero is developing high-blade-count electric ducted fans (EDFs) that it says can deliver quieter, more efficient propulsion. The company reports a small-drone flight demonstration and publishes thrust and noise figures for several propulsors. Its headline comparisons—20 dB quieter and 20% more efficient—remain company claims: the available sources do not provide independent, like-for-like test results. Its passenger aircraft are vision concepts, not demonstrated or commercially available aircraft.
How Whisper Aero’s electric ducted fan is designed to work
An electric ducted fan places a powered fan inside a surrounding shroud. Whisper Aero describes its design as using many blades tensioned to the outer shroud. The company says low blade-tip speed and an ultrasonic blade-passage frequency help shape the sound, while compact fans could be distributed around an airframe or embedded in a wing. Electric propulsion is an area of broader aviation research. What Whisper Aero claims about noise and efficiency
On its current propulsion page, accessed October 8, 2026, Whisper says its systems are “20 dB quieter and 20% more efficient” than comparable quiet-propulsion systems. The page does not specify the comparison group or test conditions, so those figures should be read as company-stated comparisons rather than universal or independently verified results. Noise and efficiency comparisons depend on what is measured and how. A meaningful comparison would disclose operating conditions and test methods, compare noise at the same distance, and match thrust and power at the same operating point. Installation and airframe effects also matter. The available sources do not provide enough independent, like-for-like data to rank Whisper Aero against other electric propulsion systems.

Whisper publishes the following specifications for its eQ series. These are company figures; the page does not provide test methods or independent validation for the noise measurements. Whisper Aero propulsion page

The figures are not enough on their own to establish how the models compare in real installations. The cited page does not set out test conditions for the noise values, and the available information does not provide a common independent protocol for comparing thrust, power, or efficiency.

What has actually flown, and what government awards show
In April 2023, Whisper reported that its 10 lbf demonstrator had been statically tested and flown on a 55 lbm drone to assess performance and noise. That is a company-reported flight demonstration of a small drone propulsion system—not a passenger aircraft test. The company also reported six Department of Defense contracts and agreements worth $2.2 million in total, involving the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Special Operations Command, and the U.S. Army. Are the Whisper Jet and Jetliner real passenger aircraft?
No. Whisper presents both as future vision concepts, not aircraft shown to be built, certified, or in commercial service. Its aviation page labels the nine-passenger Whisper Jet a “2030 vision concept,” with proposed figures of 200 miles of all-electric range and 500+ miles of hybrid range. Jetliner projections depend on future assumptions
In its Jetliner announcement, Whisper described a 100-passenger regional-aircraft concept with calculations based on projected battery performance of 804 Wh/kg at cell level, assuming 3.6% annual improvement. The company described a possible range of up to 769 miles with a 4 MW series-hybrid reserve system. Those are future-scenario assumptions for a concept, not demonstrated aircraft performance. Can you buy a Whisper propulsion system or aircraft?
The company describes the eQ products as integration-oriented propulsion offerings, but the available sources do not establish consumer retail availability. They also do not establish retail availability, orders, or delivery of the Whisper Jet or Jetliner. The information supports describing them as development offerings and future concepts—not as products a consumer can currently order.
