Which Watches Do F1 Drivers Actually Wear? The Documented Watch List

The most reliable F1 watch evidence points to TAG Heuer Monacos for Verstappen and Pérez, IWC for Russell and Mercedes, Richard Mille for Leclerc and Alonso, plus documented team and champion relationships from Breitling and Rolex.

The honest answer is that F1 drivers do not wear one standard watch. The strongest official evidence points to custom TAG Heuer Monacos for Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, IWC Pilot’s Watches for George Russell and the Mercedes-linked team ecosystem, Richard Mille’s RM 67-02 for Charles Leclerc, and documented Richard Mille, Breitling, and Rolex relationships involving other drivers and teams.

There is no single watch that all Formula 1 drivers wear. The clearest documented examples are TAG Heuer Monaco watches made for Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, IWC Pilot’s Watches linked to George Russell and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team, Richard Mille watches associated with Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso, and newer team partnerships involving Breitling and Aston Martin Aramco. Rolex also documents important historical relationships with champions Sir Jackie Stewart and Jenson Button.

That list needs one important qualification: a team sponsor’s logo on a race suit does not prove that every driver wears the sponsor’s watch. The strongest evidence is an official watchmaker page that names the driver, identifies the model, or documents a driver-specific collaboration. The result is a reliable selection of F1 watch relationships—not a complete inventory of what every driver owns or wears every day.

What counts as a watch an F1 driver actually wears?

Watch photography is full of confident claims based on a single airport photograph, a blurred wrist shot, or a sponsor logo. Those clues can be interesting, but they are not enough to establish ownership or regular wear. Drivers can also change watches between qualifying, race day, travel, sponsor appearances, and private life.

#1 Best Overall
CILOA Chronograph Men's Watch - Retro Racing Style Luxury Wristwatch for Men
  • As eye-catching men watches: Featuring an ice-blue racing-style dial with contrasting colors, paired with red and gold chronograph pushers, this watch breaks the dullness of traditional timepieces and creates a highly recognizable statement piece that elevates any outfit.
  • As mens watches that balance both texture and practicality: featuring a 316L stainless steel case and scratch-resistant mineral glass crystal, along with a soft-textured leather strap, they are durable and reliable for daily wear, ensuring stable and accurate timekeeping.
  • This watch with CILOA is designed to define your unique style: Inspired by retro racing aesthetics, it embraces bold color contrasts and breaks free from generic men’s watch designs, giving you a one-of-a-kind look that stands out from the crowd.
  • As versatile watches for men: Equipped with chronograph and date display functions, it meets both daily commuting timing needs and sports scenario timing requirements, perfectly balancing stylish design with practical functionality.
  • With a sophisticated aesthetic comparable to luxury watches men: It showcases meticulous craftsmanship in every detail, from the polished case and stitched strap to the precise dial markers, delivering high-end luxury quality at an accessible price point.

For this article, a watch counts as documented when at least one of these is true:

  • The watchmaker names the driver and the watch model.
  • The brand describes a driver-specific collaboration, presentation, or prototype.
  • An official campaign or product image clearly identifies both the driver and the watch.
  • The driver has discussed the watch through an official interview or brand partnership.

Even then, the wording matters. “Wears a prototype of the RM 67-02” is stronger and more precise than saying “Charles Leclerc wears Richard Mille watches exclusively.” Likewise, an official team edition proves a team relationship, not that every member of the team has the same personal preference.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez: the clearest TAG Heuer Monaco examples

If the question is looking for the most direct driver-to-model answer, TAG Heuer’s Monaco is the place to start. The brand documented custom Monaco chronographs made specifically for both Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez.

Max Verstappen’s custom TAG Heuer Monaco

TAG Heuer described Verstappen’s version as a one-of-one blue Monaco. The watch included his racing number and references to his championship achievements. That makes it a genuine driver-specific piece rather than simply a standard catalog watch worn by a driver who happens to race for a sponsored team.

TAG Heuer later identified Verstappen with a custom Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph. The two references should not be collapsed into one generic claim that Verstappen wears “a TAG Heuer.” The documented evidence points to multiple customized Monaco-related watches connected to him.

Sergio Pérez’s personalized Monaco

Pérez’s turquoise Monaco was also personalized. TAG Heuer’s description included his initials, a silhouette of the Monaco circuit, the date of one of his victories, and his motto. Those details make the watch identifiable as a piece created and presented in connection with Pérez.

A standard TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph is the honest buying category for someone who wants the square-case racing-watch look. It should not be presented as Verstappen’s or Pérez’s exact watch: the driver pieces were custom creations, including a one-of-one version, and are not ordinary marketplace inventory. A listing using a driver’s name may describe a similar model, a commemorative edition, or merely use the name as search bait.

Liam Lawson and the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 Chronograph

TAG Heuer’s later material also identified Liam Lawson with the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Oracle Red Bull Racing. This is a useful example of why model names matter. It is a Red Bull Racing-linked Formula 1 Chronograph, not a Monaco, and it should not be merged with the custom Monaco watches associated with Verstappen and Pérez.

George Russell and the IWC Mercedes ecosystem

George Russell has a more specific personal connection with IWC Schaffhausen. IWC collaborated with him on two limited Pilot’s Watch editions in his signature blue, including the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 George Russell, reference IW389411. The safe description is that Russell collaborated with IWC on limited editions—not that every watch he wears is an IWC or that he wears this reference at every race.

Invicta Racing Stainless Steel Men's Quartz Watch - 43mm, Gold/Black, Strap
  • The Invicta 47769 has a 43 millimetres stainless steel case with a black dial.
  • This model is powered by an accurate Quartz movement.
  • 5 bar water pressure resistant.
  • This model is part of the Invicta Racing collection.
  • Including 2-year Invicta warranty.

IWC’s relationship with Mercedes-AMG Petronas is broader than Russell’s personal collaboration. IWC has been the team’s official engineering partner since 2013 and has produced official Mercedes-AMG Petronas team watches, including the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team and Mark XX Mercedes-AMG Petronas editions.

Those are team-linked products. They may appeal to drivers, engineers, strategists, mechanics, and fans, but the existence of a Mercedes-AMG Petronas edition does not establish that every Mercedes driver wears every reference. Russell’s named collaboration is driver-specific; the broader IWC team range is not.

Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso: documented Richard Mille relationships

Charles Leclerc and the RM 67-02

Richard Mille states that Charles Leclerc wears a prototype of the lightweight RM 67-02. That is unusually strong evidence because the brand identifies both the driver and the watch family. The word “prototype” is important, however. It does not necessarily mean Leclerc wears the same retail specification available to a customer, or that every RM 67-02 listing is his watch.

The Leclerc example also illustrates the difference between a driver’s documented relationship with a specialist watchmaker and a mass-market sponsorship arrangement. The brand association is clear, while the precise availability, configuration, and day-to-day use of the prototype are separate questions.

Fernando Alonso and Richard Mille

Richard Mille identifies Fernando Alonso as a brand partner and describes a relationship involving prototypes, including a watch made in the colors of his helmet. That is strong evidence of a meaningful driver-brand relationship, but the available material does not establish one exclusive daily model for Alonso.

The accurate answer is therefore: Alonso is a documented Richard Mille partner associated with prototype watches, including a helmet-color design. It is not accurate to reduce that evidence to a claim that he wears one specific Richard Mille reference all the time.

Max Verstappen TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph; later a custom Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph TAG Heuer documented Verstappen with custom Monaco watches.
Sergio Pérez Personalized turquoise TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph TAG Heuer made and presented Pérez a customized Monaco.
Liam Lawson TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Oracle Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer identified Lawson with its Red Bull Racing Formula 1 Chronograph.

Charles Leclerc Richard Mille RM 67-02 prototype Richard Mille says Leclerc wears a prototype of the RM 67-02.
Fernando Alonso Richard Mille partnership and prototype watches Alonso is a documented Richard Mille partner; one exclusive daily model is not established here.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 and Mark XX team editions IWC makes official Mercedes-AMG Petronas team watches; that does not prove individual driver ownership.
Aston Martin Aramco Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team edition Breitling has a documented team partnership and co-branded product, not a named driver-specific wearing claim.
Sir Jackie Stewart Rolex GMT-Master family Rolex documents Stewart as a long-term Testimonee associated with the GMT-Master.
Jenson Button Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Rolex documents Button’s personal connection with the Daytona.

Aston Martin Aramco and Breitling: the newest team partnership

Breitling identifies itself as the Official Watch Partner of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One team from February 2026. The partnership includes the Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team edition.

This is current partnership and product evidence, but it is not proof that a particular Aston Martin race driver wears that exact Navitimer. A co-branded team watch can be official merchandise or a partnership product without being a driver’s personal, exclusive watch. Because partnerships change by season, the February 2026 date should remain attached to this claim rather than being treated as timeless F1 history.

Rolex and the champion context

Rolex provides two useful examples from F1’s wider champion history. The brand documents Sir Jackie Stewart as a long-term Rolex Testimonee associated with the GMT-Master family. Rolex’s material about Jenson Button describes Button’s personal connection with the Cosmograph Daytona.

Both relationships belong in the conversation, but they should be kept separate from claims about the current full-time grid. Stewart and Button show how an F1 driver’s public identity can become linked to a watch family over time. They do not prove that Rolex is the preferred watch brand of every current driver, nor that every current driver wears a Daytona or GMT-Master.

Driver watch or team watch? The distinction that prevents most mistakes

A driver-specific watch is designed for, named after, or explicitly presented to an individual driver. Verstappen’s and Pérez’s custom Monacos, Russell’s IWC editions, and Leclerc’s documented RM 67-02 prototype fit that category.

A team watch is created around a racing organization. IWC’s Mercedes-AMG Petronas editions and Breitling’s Aston Martin Aramco Navitimer belong here. They can be worn by people throughout the organization and sold to supporters without establishing a personal endorsement or ownership claim for each driver.

A third category is the brand partnership. Alonso’s Richard Mille relationship is a good example: the partnership and prototype work are documented, but the public evidence summarized here does not establish a single exclusive daily model. Brand ambassador status means a real commercial and creative relationship; it does not automatically mean the person wears only that brand.

How to check an F1 watch claim

  1. Start with the watchmaker. Look for an official page, product release, or campaign that names both the driver and the reference.
  2. Separate the model from the collection. “Monaco” is more useful than “TAG Heuer,” and “RM 67-02 prototype” is more useful than “Richard Mille.”
  3. Check whether it is personal or team-branded. A Mercedes-AMG Petronas or Aston Martin Aramco edition may be an official team product without being a driver’s personal watch.
  4. Look for words such as prototype, limited edition, custom, or one-of-one. Those terms affect both availability and whether a normal retail model can be compared with the driver’s piece.
  5. Do not mistake visibility for exclusivity. A driver may wear a brand at a sponsor event and choose something else while traveling or away from the circuit.

An isolated photograph can support a lead for further research, but it should not outrank an official model-level statement. This is especially important with luxury watches, where a dial detail, case shape, or strap can be difficult to identify accurately from a race paddock image.

Can you buy the exact watches worn by F1 drivers?

Usually, not in the simple way a search result suggests. Verstappen’s one-of-one blue Monaco and Pérez’s personalized turquoise Monaco are custom pieces. Leclerc’s documented RM 67-02 is described as a prototype. Russell’s IWC watches are limited editions. Even when a related standard model is commercially available, it is not automatically the same specification as the driver’s watch.

For a new watch, compare the reference number, case and dial description, and edition name with the official product information. For a limited or discontinued model, an authorized watch dealer or a reputable authenticated pre-owned seller is a more sensible route than an unverified listing. Ask for clear photographs, the reference and serial details where appropriate, service records, provenance, and a return policy.

Marketplace searches can also mix new watches, used watches, accessories, replicas, and incorrectly labeled listings. Treat the driver’s name as a starting search term—not as proof that the seller has the driver’s actual watch. The practical purchase may be a standard Monaco, an IWC team edition, a related Navitimer, or another model from the same family rather than the limited piece shown in a campaign.

The bottom line

The most defensible short answer is TAG Heuer Monaco for Verstappen and Pérez; IWC Pilot’s Watches for Russell and the Mercedes-linked team ecosystem; Richard Mille RM 67-02 for Leclerc and a documented Richard Mille prototype relationship for Alonso; Breitling Navitimer for the Aston Martin Aramco team partnership; and Rolex GMT-Master or Daytona associations for champions such as Stewart and Button.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those are documented examples, not proof that every F1 driver wears one fixed model every day. The difference between a named driver collaboration, a brand partnership, and a team-branded watch is the difference between a reliable answer and an attractive guess.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every F1 driver wear the watch brand that sponsors their team?

No. A sponsor logo on a driver’s race suit or team kit proves a commercial relationship, not necessarily that the driver owns or wears that watch. Team editions can be made for the wider organization and for fans.

What watch does Max Verstappen wear?

TAG Heuer documented Verstappen with a one-of-one blue Monaco featuring his racing number and championship references, and later identified him with a custom Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph. The exact custom pieces should not be confused with standard retail Monacos.

What watch does Charles Leclerc wear?

Richard Mille states that Leclerc wears a prototype of the lightweight RM 67-02. That establishes the watch family and relationship, but a retail RM 67-02 is not necessarily identical to his prototype.

Do Mercedes F1 drivers wear IWC team watches?

Not necessarily. IWC’s Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 and Mark XX Mercedes-AMG Petronas editions establish an official team relationship. They do not prove that every Mercedes driver wears every team reference personally.

The Bottom Line

In short: the best-documented current examples are TAG Heuer Monaco watches for Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, IWC Pilot’s Watch editions for George Russell and Mercedes-AMG Petronas, and Richard Mille’s RM 67-02 association with Charles Leclerc. Fernando Alonso has a documented Richard Mille partnership, while Breitling’s Navitimer relationship is with the Aston Martin Aramco team. Rolex’s GMT-Master and Daytona examples belong to champion history. None of this proves that every driver wears a sponsor’s watch exclusively or every day.
