The Toyota Century sedan is the V8-powered Toyota sedan identified in the Japanese-market 2025 specifications. Its 4.968-liter V8 works with an electric motor in a hybrid system. Toyota’s sources support calling it the V8 Toyota sedan in the lineups documented here, but they do not prove an exhaustive worldwide inventory for every market throughout calendar 2025.
Which Toyota sedan has a V8 in 2025?
It is the Century sedan, Toyota’s chauffeur-oriented flagship. Toyota’s 2025 Japanese-market specification lists a 2UR-FSE 4.968-liter V-type eight-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor as a hybrid powertrain. The figure describes the sedan, not the Century SUV. Toyota’s 2025 Century specifications and its Century vehicle listing are Japanese-market sources.
Toyota lists the sedan’s engine net maximum output as 280 kW (381 PS) at 6,200 rpm and maximum torque as 510 N·m at 4,000 rpm. These are manufacturer specification figures, not independent road-test results.
Is the Century SUV also a V8?
No. The Century sedan and Century SUV are separate body styles with different powertrains. Toyota announced the SUV with a 3.5-liter V6 plug-in hybrid system; the sedan’s 2025 specification is a 4.968-liter V8 hybrid.

Toyota’s September 6, 2023 announcement says the SUV would launch in Japan while the Century sedan remained available. The SUV’s V6 therefore does not mean the sedan was replaced or discontinued at that time.
How far does “the only Toyota sedan” claim go?
The claim is best read with a market boundary: Toyota’s Japanese-market 2025 Century materials identify the V8 sedan, while Toyota’s US 2025 materials list Camry and Crown among its models. Toyota describes the 2025 Camry as using a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with its fifth-generation hybrid system. Those examples are consistent with the Century being the V8 Toyota sedan in the documented 2025 lineups, but they are not a complete audit of every Toyota sedan sold worldwide.

Accordingly, this is a claim about the Toyota marque and the available 2025 sources—not Lexus, other Toyota Group marques, every national market, or every date in calendar 2025. Toyota’s own history identifies the Century as debuting in 1967 as its “premium chauffeur-driven car.”
