There is no evidence-based single track winner among Toyota’s GR road cars without a same-circuit comparison. The answer depends on what “best” means: rear-drive involvement, all-weather traction, high-speed pace, or everyday practicality. Toyota’s lineup also varies by market: its U.S. GR Garage lists the GR Supra, GR86, and GR Corolla, while Toyota Europe includes the GR Yaris. These are GR performance cars, not GR Sport trim levels. The available evidence establishes their layouts and positioning, but does not document a firsthand track drive or comparable lap times; it cannot support a claim that one is superior on track.
Which Toyota GR cars are in the comparison?
“Every Toyota GR model” is not a fixed worldwide set. Toyota’s U.S. GR Garage presents the GR Supra, GR86, and GR Corolla. Toyota Europe’s GR range also includes the GR Yaris. Toyota’s Japan road-car listing and Toyota Australia’s local range likewise document the Yaris, so it belongs in a broad regional comparison—not necessarily a U.S. buyer’s shortlist.
GR Sport versions of other Toyota models are a separate category from these GR performance road cars. The distinction matters: a comparison should name the market and specific model year rather than imply that every GR-badged car is available everywhere.
Can one GR car be called superior on track?
Not from the available evidence. Toyota describes motorsport-informed development and publishes manufacturer specifications, but there is no same-day, same-circuit test here comparing all four cars. No track, weather, trim, tire, transmission, driver, or observed on-track behavior is established. There are also no comparable lap times. A defensible “winner” therefore depends on the criterion and the particular circuit; it cannot be inferred from the GR badge, drivetrain, or output figures alone.

Toyota says GR development draws on motorsport and track testing in its 2025 U.S. GR86 brochure. That explains the manufacturer’s development approach, not how the models rank against one another in a controlled track test.
How the GR models differ for track use
| Model | Layout and official positioning | What that means for a buyer’s decision |
|---|---|---|
| GR86 | Front-engine, rear-wheel drive; Toyota emphasizes weight distribution, a low center of gravity, and cornering response. (Toyota Europe and Toyota U.S.) | The lineup’s rear-drive sports-coupe choice. Whether its balance and feedback make it more enjoyable or faster on a given circuit requires direct driving evidence. |
| GR Supra | Rear-wheel drive; Toyota Europe describes a 50/50 balance and a sports-car focus for road and track use. | A rear-drive coupe alternative to the GR86, but the manufacturer descriptions do not establish comparative pace or handling superiority. |
| GR Corolla | GR-FOUR selectable all-wheel drive in a five-door, five-passenger body, according to Toyota’s launch-era North American description. | Combines an AWD proposition with a more practical body layout. Five seats and five doors do not establish cargo capacity or adult-passenger comfort. |
| GR Yaris | Rally-team-developed hatchback using GR-FOUR four-wheel drive, according to Toyota Europe. | The rally-derived AWD choice in markets where it is sold. Its availability and current specification depend on region and model year. |
The layouts indicate different engineering choices, not a ranking. Rear drive and AWD can suit different drivers and track characteristics; actual cornering behavior, braking, heat management, and pace need to be observed rather than assumed.

What specifications are established—and for which markets?
Specifications can help identify versions, but the published figures below have different regional and model-year scopes and are not a controlled performance comparison.
- GR Corolla: Toyota’s 2022 launch release gives a North American development target of 224 kW (304 PS) at 6,500 rpm and 370 N·m from 3,000 to 5,550 rpm, with a six-speed manual in that target specification. These are launch-era target figures, not a verified specification for every current model year. Toyota Global Newsroom, 2022.
- GR86: Toyota Australia’s February 2025 update lists 174 kW at 7,000 rpm and 250 N·m at 3,700 rpm for its 2025 Australian range, with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. It also reports retuned dampers and electric power steering for that local update. Toyota Australia, 2025.
- GR Yaris: Toyota Australia lists 221 kW at 6,500 rpm and 400 N·m from 3,250 to 4,600 rpm for its upgraded 2025 Australian model, with a six-speed manual and a new eight-speed automatic. Do not apply those figures or configurations to other markets. Toyota Australia, 2025.
- GR Corolla in Australia: Toyota’s 2025 local update describes manual and new automatic options and added cooling provisions, including a larger cooling fan intended to reduce transmission temperatures. These are Australian-market details, not evidence of how the car performs in a particular track session. Toyota Australia, 2025.
- GR Supra: Toyota Australia reported that its 2025 range carried over and described an Australian Track Edition with chassis, suspension, steering, differential, and front-brake updates. Those details apply to that market’s special edition, not every Supra. Toyota Australia, 2025.
Toyota’s account of motorsport informing model development is relevant context, not independent proof of track superiority. Toyota Australia Vice President Sean Hanley said the company’s motorsport involvement “feeds directly into the development of our GR performance models,” describing the manufacturer’s development perspective rather than a comparative test result. Toyota Australia, 2025.

Which GR should you choose for your kind of driving?
- Choose the GR86 to prioritize a rear-drive coupe. Toyota positions it around cornering response and weight-conscious design. That does not prove it is the most involving or quickest choice on every circuit.
- Consider the GR Supra for a rear-drive sports-car focus. Toyota describes its balance and road-and-track intent, but the evidence here does not compare its pace with the GR86.
- Consider the GR Corolla if AWD and five-door practicality matter. Toyota’s launch description establishes the body and seating layout; it does not establish cargo volume or how the car behaves under track conditions.
- Consider the GR Yaris where it is available if rally-derived AWD is the draw. Its market availability and equipment differ; confirm the local model-year specification before comparing it with a GR Corolla.
- Match the car to the circuit and driver, not a spec-sheet proxy. Technicality, speed, weather, tires, transmission, and driver preference can all matter, but this evidence does not show which model benefits most from any specific condition.
What would make a track comparison conclusive?
A useful head-to-head would identify each car’s market-specific model year, trim, tire, and transmission; run them on the same circuit in comparable conditions; and report driver context and observed results. If it claims a pace winner, it should disclose timing and test conditions. Without those details, a verdict about feedback, confidence, braking, cooling, or lap-time superiority would go beyond what is established.
Market and model-year caveats
Availability and specification change by region and year. Toyota’s Australia-specific 2025 updates include automatic-transmission options for the GR Yaris and GR Corolla as well as cooling and chassis details; they should not be read as U.S. or European configurations. Toyota’s U.S. GR Garage also describes a complimentary one-year NASA membership, one high-performance driving experience with a NASA professional, and discounted admission to NASA-sanctioned events for eligible new 2026 GR vehicle owners. Check Toyota’s current eligibility and terms before relying on that offer.
