They are not seven confirmed full-plant closures: the actions include production transfers, an end to Nissan model production at one site, a joint-venture ownership change and a conditional agreement. The clearest announced exits are vehicle production at Oppama, Japan, planned to end after FY2027, and operations at CIVAC, Mexico, which Nissan said would cease as production moved to Aguascalientes.
What Nissan announced—and what it means
Nissan’s Re:Nissan plan sets a target to reduce its vehicle-production footprint from 17 plants to 10 by FY2027. In its FY2025 Q4 presentation, the company said it had announced seven site actions within ten months and that six were to be consolidated by the end of FY2026. The presentation treats these as site actions, not as seven identical notices that entire facilities will close. Its Rosslyn agreement was still subject to conditions and regulatory approvals.
The table distinguishes the stated change at each location from what the available announcement does not establish. Fiscal years are Nissan’s fiscal years; a stated plan or target is not proof that the change has since been completed.
| Site | What Nissan said | Timing or production destination | Does this establish a full-site closure? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oppama, Japan | Vehicle production is planned to end at the plant. | At the end of FY2027; production is to transfer to Nissan Motor Kyushu. | No. The announcement applies to vehicle production at the Oppama Plant and says other district facilities will continue. |
| CIVAC, Mexico | Operations at CIVAC are planned to cease as Mexican vehicle production moves away. | During FY2025, production was to move to Aguascalientes. | The announcement says CIVAC operations would cease, but it is a plan and not a later completion confirmation. |
| Nissan Shatai Shonan, Japan | Production of the Nissan NV200, made there under consignment, is to end; this marks the end of Nissan model production at the site. | FY2026; a successor was planned for FY2027. | No. The announcement does not say the whole Shonan plant will close. |
| Argentina | Frontier and Navara pickup production is moving from Argentina to Mexico. | Transfer to Mexico; the cited presentation excerpt does not state a more specific timing. | Not established. A production transfer alone does not determine the final status of every site function. |
| India | Nissan sold its 51% interest in its joint-venture plant to Renault; Nissan vehicles are to continue being produced there. | Ownership change; the cited presentation excerpt does not state a more specific timing. | No. This is a joint-venture ownership change, not an announcement that Nissan vehicle production stops. |
| COMPAS, Mexico | Listed among the seven announced site actions. | The cited presentation excerpt does not specify the full outcome or timing. | Not established by the cited detail. |
| Rosslyn, South Africa | Nissan listed an agreement for Rosslyn. | Subject to conditions and regulatory approvals. | Not established. The presentation does not describe the agreement as completed. |
Which announced changes most directly affect plant operations?
Oppama: vehicle production moves to Kyushu
Nissan announced that vehicle production at its Oppama Plant would end at the close of FY2027 and transfer to Nissan Motor Kyushu. Its July 2025 announcement said the decision applied to the Oppama Plant—not every Nissan operation in the district. Nissan said its Research Center, GRANDRIVE, crash-test facility and Oppama Wharf would continue operating. The company described the plant’s approximate workforce as 2,400 employees and said employees at the plant would remain employed through FY2027. It also reported that more than 17.8 million vehicles had been produced there to date. Nissan’s Oppama announcement

Nissan’s September 2026 Japan strategy identifies Note, Note Aura and Kicks among the models moving from Oppama to Kyushu. This is part of a broader reallocation of production, rather than a statement that Japan’s manufacturing network is being abandoned. Nissan’s Japan manufacturing strategy
CIVAC: production transfer with operations planned to cease
Nissan announced that all Mexican vehicle production at CIVAC would move to Aguascalientes during FY2025 and that CIVAC operations would cease. The models named for transfer were NP300, Frontier and Versa. Nissan said more than 6.5 million vehicles had been produced at CIVAC to date. The announcement establishes Nissan’s plan and intended timing, not whether the transfer and cessation were later completed. Nissan’s CIVAC announcement
Shatai Shonan: Nissan model production ends, but site closure is not stated
Nissan said NV200 production, which was consigned to Nissan Shatai Shonan, would end in FY2026, marking the end of Nissan model production at that site. A successor was planned for FY2027. That wording concerns Nissan models; it does not confirm that the entire plant will shut. Nissan’s announcement on Oppama and Shonan

How to read the other four site actions
Argentina: pickup production transfer
Nissan’s presentation describes Frontier and Navara pickup production moving from Argentina to Mexico. The cited material does not establish the ultimate status of all operations at the Argentine site, so the transfer should not be treated on its own as proof of a full-site shutdown.

India: change in joint-venture ownership
Nissan said it sold its 51% interest in its joint-venture plant to Renault, which would continue producing Nissan vehicles. That is a change in ownership, not a simple end to Nissan production.
COMPAS: listed, with outcome details not stated
COMPAS in Mexico appears in Nissan’s list of seven site actions. The cited presentation excerpt does not give enough detail to describe the facility’s final status or the specific action, so a full closure should not be inferred.

Rosslyn: agreement remains conditional in the cited presentation
Nissan’s presentation lists an agreement for Rosslyn, South Africa, but says it was subject to conditions and regulatory approvals. It does not establish that the agreement was completed.
The same presentation refers separately to a production-line consolidation in Thailand and shift changes at U.S. and U.K. plants. Those measures are not, by themselves, announcements that those plants will close.
What Nissan’s Japan strategy says about the wider restructuring
In September 2026, Nissan described its Japan changes as a realignment of manufacturing roles. The company assigned Tochigi a high-tech role covering sports cars, electrified vehicles and minivans; Nissan Motor Kyushu a global B- and C-segment role; and Nissan Shatai Kyushu a specialist role for body-on-frame vehicles and light commercial vehicles. Nissan said Tochigi Plant 1 would make Fairlady Z and Skyline, while Plant 2 would make LEAF and Ariya. Kyushu Plant 1 would focus on Note, Note Aura and Kicks after their transfer from Oppama; Plant 2 would focus on Rogue and X-Trail. These are announced roles and plans, not verified production results.

Nissan also stated an ambition to produce approximately one million vehicles annually in Japan. That figure is a company ambition, not a reported output result. Nissan’s Japan manufacturing strategy
How much of Nissan’s capacity plan is a target?
Nissan’s February 2025 update set a separate global production-capacity goal: reduce capacity from 5 million to 4 million units by FY2026, including China, while raising capacity utilization from 70% in FY2024 to 85% in FY2026. These are dated company targets, not evidence that the reductions or utilization levels were achieved. They provide context for the broader restructuring but do not turn every listed site action into a full closure. Nissan’s February 2025 update
