Three Mercedes-Benz model lines are reported to be leaving the lineup for the 2027 model year: the EQE sedan, the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV. The EQE departure covers both Mercedes-Benz and AMG sedan versions. The confirmation was attributed to a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson in Car and Driver’s October 1, 2026 report; it was not presented as a company-wide discontinuation bulletin.

The table reflects the scope of Car and Driver’s report of its conversation with a company spokesperson. It identifies three model lines, not three individual versions: the EQE sedan line includes both the Mercedes-Benz and AMG variants.
Which Mercedes models are not confirmed to be leaving?
- EQE SUV: It is not included in the reported EQE sedan discontinuation.
- Mercedes-Benz EQS SUVs: The reported cut is the Maybach EQS 680 SUV, not the EQS SUV line as a whole.
- Other Maybach SUVs: The report does not say Maybach SUVs generally are being discontinued.
- AMG C43 and C63 sedans: Their status was uncertain in the October 1 report because they were not shown with the refreshed C-Class. Their absence from that reveal is not confirmation of cancellation.
Does this mean Mercedes-Benz is abandoning electric cars?
No. The three reported departures do not amount to an end to Mercedes-Benz’s EV program. Its 2026 Strategy Update describes a portfolio in which customers retain powertrain choice and lists electric CLA, GLC, GLB, and CLA Shooting Brake variants across the 2025–2027 plan. Separately, the Mercedes-Benz USA future-vehicles page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists upcoming U.S.-market electric C-Class, GLB, and VLE models, among other vehicles. That U.S. listing does not establish availability in every country.
The company’s July 22, 2021 strategy statement set an ambition to offer an all-electric alternative for every model from 2025 onward, subject to market conditions and profitability. That was a historical ambition; the later 2026 presentation explicitly describes customer choice and a continuing mix of powertrains.

What is behind the three cuts?
Car and Driver frames the EQE sedan’s departure as part of a shift away from electric models with distinct styling toward EV versions of familiar nameplates. That is the outlet’s account of the broader strategy shift, not a specifically quoted Mercedes-Benz explanation for each discontinuation. No directly attributable executive statement in the cited material explains why these three model lines are ending.
Mercedes-Benz Group’s 2025 results material, published in 2026, says the company introduced more than 40 new models over three years and reported strong order books for new CLA, GLC, and S-Class models into the second half of 2026. It also reports €8.2 billion in adjusted EBIT, €132.2 billion in revenue, and €5.4 billion in industrial-business free cash flow for 2025. These company-wide figures describe its broader business and launch program; they do not measure demand for the EQE, S63, or Maybach EQS and do not establish why the three lines are ending.

In the same results material, Mercedes-Benz Group CEO Ola Källenius said, “We are moving forward with a clear game plan and a very competitive product portfolio.” The remark concerns the overall product plan, not these individual cuts.

Not in the cited report. The S63 name could potentially return with a different powertrain, but Car and Driver presents that possibility as speculation, not a confirmed successor. Mercedes-Benz’s announced electric C-Class and GLC are upcoming vehicles in their own right; the available information does not establish either as a direct replacement for the EQE sedan, S63 E Performance, or Maybach EQS 680 SUV.
