There is no reliable evidence that one Genesis model is the most dependable across every model year from roughly 2017 to 2026. A recent analysis of U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) records found no avoid-year flags for the G90, GV80, or GV60, but that makes them a cautious shortlist—not proven winners. Check the specific used car’s VIN, maintenance records, and condition before choosing.
Which Genesis model is the most reliable?
The available evidence does not establish a single model as the most reliable Genesis of the last decade. The strongest recent official dependability result is for the Genesis brand as a whole, while model-year complaint and recall analyses use different measures and cannot show a controlled failure rate for each model.
In CarWhere’s October 2026 analysis of NHTSA complaint and recall records, the G90, GV80, and GV60 had no model years flagged to avoid among the years analyzed. The GV70 had the most avoid-year flags, and three of the six Genesis models in the analysis had at least one. That is a useful screening signal, not proof that the G90, GV80, or GV60 is more reliable than every other Genesis. CarWhere’s model-year analysis
The result also needs an age and exposure caveat: newer vehicles have had less time to accumulate complaints, and raw event totals can reflect how many vehicles are on the road. The models should be assessed on their own histories, not ranked by unadjusted totals.

What the reliability data can—and cannot—tell you
J.D. Power measures brand-level dependability
Genesis recorded 208 problems per 100 vehicles in the 2026 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, compared with the study’s industry average of 204. This is a brand-level result, not a ranking of the G70, G80, G90, GV60, GV70, or GV80. J.D. Historical brand results are not a current model verdict. In 2020, Genesis ranked highest in overall vehicle dependability, with 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Complaints are not confirmed failures
ForCar reports 900 Genesis complaints across 439 production runs. Those are complaint records, not a count of confirmed mechanical failures or a sales-adjusted estimate of the chance that a particular car will have a problem. Recalls identify safety campaigns, not an overall reliability ranking
A recall may apply only to selected model years or VINs. For example, Genesis Motor America’s NHTSA-filed notice 25V-105 covers certain 2025 GV70, 2023–2025 Electrified GV70, 2023–2024 GV80, and 2023–2024 G80 vehicles for an instrument-panel display issue. What is the most reliable Genesis to buy used?
If you want a starting shortlist based on the cited model-year screening, consider the G90, GV80, and GV60: none had a model year flagged to avoid in CarWhere’s analysis. The result does not identify an overall champion, guarantee trouble-free ownership, or establish that one is a better buy than another. Choose based on the exact car’s age, mileage, service history, repair documentation, condition, and VIN-level recall status.
Do not compare the models using raw campaign or complaint counts alone. A useful comparison keeps each model’s own model-year signals separate and distinguishes those signals from brand-level owner surveys and vehicle-specific recall records. The available sources do not put all six models on a common, independently comparable reliability scale.

How to screen a specific used Genesis
- Identify the exact model year and vehicle. Reliability signals vary by year, and a model name alone does not tell you which campaigns apply.
- Check open recalls by VIN. Use current official recall information to determine whether the specific car is affected and whether required work has been completed.
- Review service and repair records. Ask for documentation rather than relying only on a model-level ranking.
- Assess condition and mileage. Aggregate data cannot establish how an individual car was maintained, repaired, or driven.
- Arrange an independent inspection when appropriate. A qualified inspection can help evaluate the candidate car itself; a model ranking cannot substitute for it.
Does the answer include the earlier Hyundai Genesis?
This comparison treats “Genesis” as the U.S. luxury brand’s vehicles from approximately 2017 through 2026. The 2017 G90 history notes that the model entered the Genesis brand after it separated from Hyundai’s lineup; the earlier 2016 Hyundai Genesis was rated separately under Hyundai.
