Deliveroo and Coco Robotics plan to begin robot deliveries in Canary Wharf in October 2026, followed by Milton Keynes, Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees and Nottingham in the coming weeks and months. Customers will collect orders from a designated drop-off point rather than have a robot bring food to their door. The service is limited to selected locations, restaurants and menu items; Deliveroo says most orders will still be delivered by riders.
Where and when are Deliveroo’s delivery robots coming?
The companies announced an exclusive UK partnership on 5 October 2026. Canary Wharf is the first planned launch area, with service due to start during October. No exact launch day has been announced.
Milton Keynes, Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees and Nottingham are named for later expansion, but Deliveroo has not published dates for those locations. The announcement also does not define the coverage boundary within any town or city, so a location name alone does not establish that every neighbourhood will be served.
Which restaurants are expected to offer robot delivery?
In Canary Wharf, Deliveroo initially names Patty&Bun, Signorelli and Beam in Wood Wharf. It says Ole & Steen, Royal China and Din Tai Fung may be added later. For Milton Keynes, Smoke and Pepper and 5 Akhis are named among the merchants expected when the service rolls out. The announcement does not give a complete merchant list for those places or name merchants for Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees or Nottingham. These are announced plans, not confirmation that every named venue is available from launch.

How does a Coco robot delivery work?
The robots are described by Deliveroo and Coco as fully electric, travelling at walking pace and using onboard sensors, cameras and AI-driven navigation for short-distance urban deliveries. The practical distinction for customers is collection: if robot delivery is offered for an order, the app confirms a designated drop-off point before checkout. The customer must be able to reach that point and collect the order there; the robot does not deliver to the customer’s door.
Deliveroo’s UK terms say robot delivery is available only in selected locations, from selected partners and for selected menu items. Availability also depends on weather and road conditions. If robot delivery becomes unavailable, the order may instead be delivered by a rider. The app’s available option and confirmed collection point are therefore more reliable than assuming a robot serves a particular address.

Will robots replace Deliveroo riders?
Deliveroo says most orders will continue to be fulfilled by its rider network. That is the company’s stated plan for the operating mix, not a measured result from the new UK service. The partnership announcement provides no fleet size, delivery-volume forecast, job impact estimate or post-launch results from which to assess how much robot delivery will change rider work.
Are delivery robots approved to use UK pavements?
The Deliveroo announcement does not establish government approval or the permissions applying to each local launch. In a written answer on 21 May 2026, the Department for Transport said: “The Government does not have any involvement, and has not approved, any pavement delivery robot operations in the UK.” In July, the department described existing pavement robot operations as working in partnership with relevant local authorities and said it was seeking powers to facilitate new trials through the Regulating for Growth Bill. It said local leaders would decide whether and how a trial operates. Those dated statements do not confirm the specific permissions, final rules or trial arrangements for Deliveroo’s named locations.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is known about accessibility and safety?
Deliveroo says Coco will share real-time pavement-hazard data with BlindSquare, an app intended to help blind and partially sighted pedestrians receive alerts about obstacles ahead. This is an announced data-sharing measure, not evidence that the robots have already improved safety or accessibility. The Department for Transport’s stated call to examine pedestrian impacts, including effects on vulnerable people, remains relevant to evaluating the service.
