Subarus are made in Japan and the United States. Subaru’s Japanese vehicle plants are in Gunma; its U.S. factory, Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA), is in Lafayette, Indiana. Which plant assembles a particular Subaru depends on its model and model year.
Where Subaru vehicles are made
Subaru Corporation identifies two automotive production locations: Gunma, Japan, and Indiana, United States, as of April 1, 2025. Its 2025 Integrated Report says the company concentrates vehicle manufacturing in Japan and the United States.

Subaru reports that SIA accounts for more than 35% of Group vehicle production in its 2025 Integrated Report. That is a share of the company’s production, not a count of vehicles made per year. The same report records six million cumulative Subaru vehicles produced at SIA by June 2025.
Which Subarus are assembled in the United States?
For the 2026 model year, Subaru of America identifies all Ascent, Forester, gas Crosstrek, and Crosstrek Wilderness models as assembled in America. This is a model-year-specific statement from Subaru of America; it should not be treated as a permanent assignment for every year or market.

How to check where a specific Subaru was assembled
A company-wide factory list does not establish the assembly origin of an individual vehicle. The sources cited here do not identify the origin of a particular VIN. For a specific car, check its vehicle documentation or ask Subaru or a dealer to confirm its assembly origin; do not infer it from a model name alone.

Subaru announced Ascent production at SIA in May 2018. The company said the first American-made Ascent came off the line on May 7, 2018. That milestone is historical context, not a current model assignment.
