When Buying a 1-Year-Old Mercedes EQS Sedan Over a New One Makes Sense

A one-year-old EQS can offer value, but only when its actual price, equipment, condition and remaining coverage compare favorably with a new-car deal.

A one-year-old Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan can make sense if its price is meaningfully lower than the cost of a comparable new car after incentives, financing, options, and fees are included. Age alone does not prove a bargain: the right comparison depends on the exact trim, model year, mileage, condition, equipment, and warranty left on that specific car.

When a one-year-old EQS is the better buy

The case for buying used is strongest when you find a well-documented EQS with the equipment you want at a transaction price clearly below a similarly equipped new example. Compare the used car’s asking price with a new car’s negotiated out-the-door offer—not just its sticker price. A new-car incentive or favorable financing offer can narrow or erase the apparent gap.

There is no substantiated representative current price or depreciation figure for one-year-old EQS Sedans in the available evidence, so a fixed percentage or dollar saving would be misleading. Treat each candidate as an individual comparison rather than assuming every one-year-old example has depreciated by the same amount.

Use the right new-car benchmark

Mercedes-Benz USA displayed these starting MSRPs for the EQS Sedan when its model page was accessed on October 8, 2026. They are U.S. starting prices, not observed transaction prices, and do not account for options, local fees, negotiation, or incentives.

EQS 450+ $101,450
EQS 500 4MATIC $104,450
EQS 580 4MATIC $123,900

Check the Mercedes-Benz USA EQS Sedan page and current local offers before using those figures in a buying decision. For a fair comparison, request a written new-car quote that includes the trim, factory options, dealer fees, delivery, applicable incentives, and financing terms. Then compare it with the complete cost of the used car, including any dealer fees and required add-ons.

Model year matters: the 2025 EQS update

“One year old” does not identify one fixed set of features. Mercedes-Benz announced notable changes for the 2025 EQS Sedan, including a larger 118-kWh battery, a revised front fascia and grille, and new standard and optional rear-passenger comfort equipment. The automaker said, “All 2025 EQS Sedan models benefit from an all-new battery with an increased usable capacity of 118 kWh for improved electric range.” See the April 10, 2024 Mercedes-Benz announcement.

MINI GT EQS 580 4MATIC Red Metallic with Sun Roof Limited Edition 1/64 Diecast Model Car MGT00970
  • Brand new box. Authentic detail. Real rubber tires. True-to-scale detail. Detailed wheel design. Detailed under-chassis. Soft rubber side mirrors. Detailed interior, exterior. Comes in a blister pack. Officially licensed product. Die-cast metal body and chassis. Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Dimensions approximately L-2.875 inches long.

That update can make a one-year-old example less directly comparable with a new EQS, depending on its model year and trim. Verify the actual model year and equipment by VIN and window sticker; do not assume that a car described as “one year old” has the latest battery or rear-seat features.

EQS Gray Metallic Special Edition Series 1/27 Diecast Model Car 32902GRY
  • Brand new box. Real rubber tires. True-to-scale detail. Has opening front doors. Detailed interior, exterior. Officially licensed product. Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts. Dimensions approximately L-7.5, W-3, H-2.25 inches.
  • Trim and drivetrain: Compare the same EQS version and drivetrain configuration.
  • Factory options and included equipment: Check the original window sticker, including wheel choice and comfort or technology packages.
  • Mileage and condition: Inspect the interior, exterior, tires, and wheels; account for wear that may require near-term spending.
  • History: Review accident, ownership, service, and title records, and ask for documentation of completed maintenance.
  • Warranty: Confirm the in-service date, remaining coverage, and whether the car is being sold as certified pre-owned. Get coverage details in writing.
  • Total cost: Include dealer and delivery fees, incentives, financing terms, and any required add-ons on both sides of the comparison.

If you cannot match the trim or equipment closely, identify what the used car is missing—or what it adds—and decide whether that difference is worth the price. A lower price on a less-equipped or materially different model year is not automatically a better value.

Check the remaining warranty by VIN

The 2025 U.S. EQ Service and Warranty Information booklet lists high-voltage battery coverage for the EQS for 10 years or 155,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to the booklet’s terms. That is battery coverage, not a promise that every vehicle component is covered for that period. The applicable terms can depend on the model year and the car’s status.

Use the Mercedes-Benz USA manuals and warranty documents to find materials for the actual model year. Ask a Mercedes-Benz dealer to confirm coverage for the VIN, including the in-service date and mileage, and review the applicable booklet rather than relying on a general description. Do not infer battery condition from warranty length; a vehicle-specific inspection or diagnostic report is needed to assess the car itself.

Make sure the charging setup fits your life

Before committing, confirm that the car’s charging equipment and software features suit your home charging arrangement and the routes you regularly drive. Check access to charging where you live and travel, and verify the specific vehicle’s equipment rather than assuming all EQS examples are configured identically.

A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified Mercedes-Benz EV service provider is a practical safeguard. Ask for a written explanation of the warranty coverage and any inspection findings so you can evaluate the car’s condition and likely near-term costs.

A simple decision rule

  1. Price a comparable new EQS. Get an out-the-door quote for the same trim and as close as possible to the used car’s equipment, including incentives and financing terms.
  2. Verify the used car. Confirm its model year, options, mileage, history, condition, in-service date, and remaining warranty using the VIN and supporting documents.
  3. Account for differences. Add the cost of any immediate needs, such as tires, and assign value to equipment or model-year changes that differ between the two cars.
  4. Buy used only if the gap is compelling. Choose the one-year-old EQS when its adjusted total cost is meaningfully lower and its condition, coverage, and features meet your needs. If the gap is small, the new car’s warranty position, latest equipment, or financing offer may make it the more sensible choice.

What one road test can—and cannot—tell you

Tom’s Guide published a review of the 2025 EQS 450 on July 20, 2025, based on a week of driving. It can provide one reviewer’s perspective on that test car, but it is not evidence of typical long-term ownership or a representative reliability record. Read the review as a single road-test account, not a substitute for inspecting the specific used car you are considering.
