What changed on the 2026 Lexus IS?
The update focuses on refinement rather than a ground-up redesign. Toyota and Lexus describe changes to the front styling, steering, suspension, displays, cabin trim, multimedia, and safety systems. The specific equipment depends on the market.
Steering and suspension
Toyota says the electric power steering rack now uses variable gearing. The intended result is less steering input through intersections and winding roads while retaining straight-line stability. For the Japan-market update, Toyota also says it revised the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) to balance vehicle stability and ride comfort. The global announcement describes linear-solenoid AVS, with shock reduction and stability among its design aims. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent road-test findings.
Exterior and wheels
The redesigned front face emphasizes a low, wide stance. F SPORT versions get a reshaped rear spoiler intended to improve aerodynamic performance, along with newly styled lightweight 19-inch wheels in the announced configurations. Color availability varies: Toyota’s global reveal lists eight colors for Japan and the announced global rollout, including new Neutrino Gray; Lexus USA lists seven North American colors, including Wind.

Displays and cabin
Japan’s update adds 12.3-inch center and TFT displays, a driver-focused cockpit layout, Forged bamboo ornamentation, and the PROMINENCE cabin color. Lexus USA says its 2026 IS comes standard with Lexus Interface and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, alongside a restyled instrument panel, center console, and trims. Japanese trim and interior details should not be assumed to apply to North American cars.
Safety and multimedia
Toyota says the global update includes changes to Lexus Safety System+ and multimedia. For the U.S. announcement, Lexus specifically identifies Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 as standard.

Is the 2026 Lexus IS a redesign or another facelift?
The confirmed changes are a continued update to the existing compact, rear-wheel-drive sports sedan, not evidence of a new-generation redesign. Toyota’s global announcement calls it a “new model,” and its Japan launch notice describes the IS300h changes as a partial improvement or update. The U.S. release calls it the 2026 model.
“Third facelift” is not established as Lexus or Toyota’s official count in the cited announcements. It may be used as headline shorthand, but the manufacturers’ materials reviewed do not verify that ordinal. Toyota says the IS debuted in 1999 and reports approximately 1.3 million sales across about 40 countries and regions in its September 9, 2025 global reveal. That history shows the model’s longevity; it does not establish how many facelifts it has received.

Which 2026 Lexus IS models are available?
The lineup is market-specific, so a single global specification sheet would be misleading. Toyota’s global reveal identifies IS300h and IS350 versions, but regional rollout and equipment vary.

Lexus USA also announced a North American Special Appearance Package limited to 350 units for the IS 350 F SPORT. It includes Hakugin Matte White exterior paint, a White & Black cabin, 19-inch black BBS forged wheels, triple-beam LED headlamps, a moonroof, and additional equipment.

For a meaningful buyer comparison, check the country, powertrain, grade, included equipment, price, and local availability together. The Japan-market IS300h prices do not serve as a direct comparison with U.S. pricing or establish what another market will offer.

Toyota’s global announcement appeared September 9, 2025 and said regional launches would follow from early 2026. Toyota announced Japanese sales of the updated IS300h for January 8, 2026. Those dates do not establish availability in every country.
