The 2026 Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo is a V-Class-based camper van with a redesigned pop-up roof and a set of cabin and equipment updates. Mercedes-Benz says the roof’s raised rear section provides 10 cm of additional headroom. Those changes are notable, but the available product information does not establish an industry-wide “seismic shift.”
What changed in the 2026 Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo?
Mercedes-Benz announced the updated Marco Polo on February 3, 2026, describing it as a camper based on the V-Class. The announcement said the model would be available to order soon; a later Mercedes-Benz announcement set August 6, 2026, as the start of ordering in Germany and other European markets. Buyers elsewhere should check local availability and specifications.
The main change is a redesigned pop-up roof: Mercedes-Benz describes it as a double-skinned aluminium shell. When the expandable rear section is fully raised, it adds 10 cm of headroom at the rear. This is a manufacturer-stated specification, not a result from independent testing. Mercedes-Benz Media’s February 3, 2026 announcement also lists these updates:
- Updated roof lighting.
- A sliding roof planned for availability in the second half of 2026.
- A redesigned awning and magnetic cockpit darkening.
- An updated sound system, MBAC controls and interior refinements.
The sliding roof’s timing is a plan, not confirmation that it is available on every vehicle or in every market. Check the local configuration before ordering.

How does the Marco Polo HORIZON differ?
HORIZON is a separately described Marco Polo version, so its details should not be assumed to apply to every Marco Polo. The Mercedes-Benz Conversion World HORIZON page specifies a manual pop-up roof, a rear triple couch and sleeping space for up to five people across the roof and couch. The page does not state a publication date for that sleeping-capacity figure.
Is this a new idea for Mercedes camper vans?
No. In 2020, Mercedes-Benz USA described the Metris Getaway, a U.S.-market pop-top camper built by Driverge Vehicle Innovations with Peace Vans. The release named a rear bench that converts to a bed, swiveling front seats and a second battery. That is historical U.S. context, not evidence that the 2026 Marco Polo and Metris Getaway are interchangeable or currently available in the same markets. Does the update amount to a seismic shift?
The documented changes support a more specific conclusion: Mercedes-Benz has revised the Marco Polo’s roof and listed several equipment and interior updates. The cited product announcements do not provide sales, adoption, market-size or other independent evidence of a seismic change across the camper-van market. Mercedes-Benz Vans executive Sagree Sardien called the new model “an even more sophisticated home on wheels”; that is the company’s promotional description, not independent validation of a broader industry trend.
