2018 was the last model year Ram offered a manual transmission in its 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickups, based on Ram’s 2018 specifications and its automatic-only 2019 HD lineup. Those documents establish Ram’s timeline, but they do not prove that Ram kept manuals longer than every other automaker; that broader comparison requires comparable records from Ford and GM.
What was the last year Ram offered a manual transmission?
For Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, the last documented model year with a manual was 2018. Ram’s 2018 commercial specifications identify the G56 six-speed manual and describe its availability with Cummins-powered pickups. Ram’s announcement for the redesigned 2019 Heavy Duty lineup lists automatic transmissions for its Cummins and HEMI powertrains.
This conclusion is specific to the Ram HD pickup range. The 2018 brochure also lists the G56 for some Ram Chassis Cab configurations, a separate commercial-vehicle category; the pickup timeline should not be treated as proof of the final manual year for every Ram commercial vehicle.
Which 2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 came with a manual?
Ram’s 2018 specification describes a Cummins setup rated at 350 hp and 660 lb-ft as paired only with the six-speed manual. It also names the G56 as available on Cummins-equipped Ram pickups. That does not mean every 2018 Ram 2500 or 3500 had a manual: engine and configuration matter.

Mopar catalogs manual-transmission listings for both the 2018 Ram 2500 and 2018 Ram 3500. Catalog listings are useful when researching a replacement or restoration, but they do not guarantee current stock or compatibility with a particular truck. Verify fitment by VIN and configuration before ordering.

The announcement also uses “manual shift” for a transfer-case option. That describes how the transfer case is operated; it is not a manual transmission.
Does the evidence prove Ram was the last automaker to offer a manual HD pickup?
No. Ram’s 2018 and 2019 documents support the narrower conclusion that 2018 was its final manual-equipped HD pickup model year. They do not establish when Ford or GM ended manual transmissions in comparable U.S.-market heavy-duty pickups. A defensible automaker-wide ranking would need to compare official model-year specifications on the same basis, separating pickups from chassis cabs and accounting for engine, trim, and configuration. Until then, “longer than any other automaker” remains unverified by these sources.

Are Ram HD pickups still available with a manual?
Ram’s 2027 HD announcement lists an eight-speed automatic with the 6.4-liter HEMI and a TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic with the 6.7-liter Cummins HO. The announced 2027 lineup is automatic-only. Because future product offerings can change, check the current model-year specifications when shopping.
