The cases are separate lawsuits, and their procedural outcomes differ. A court allowing a claim to proceed past an early pleading challenge does not establish that the alleged fraud happened.
What Uber says the alleged schemes involved
Across complaints in several jurisdictions, Uber describes alleged conduct that begins after a crash—or, in some allegations, with a staged or minor collision—and continues through medical care and settlement negotiations. The details vary by case. Uber has alleged combinations of referrals to particular providers, unnecessary treatment, false or repeated medical and billing records, and injury claims or settlement demands it says were inflated.
Those are allegations, not established facts. The materials summarized here do not establish that every crash at issue was staged, that every injury claim was fraudulent, or that the people named in one case participated in another. Nor do they establish a verified nationwide total for crashes, claims or losses.
How the cases compare
| Venue and case | What Uber alleges | Procedural status in the available record |
|---|---|---|
| Philadelphia, Uber Technologies, Inc. v. Simon & Simon P.C.; Uber and FedEx are plaintiffs | A coordinated scheme tied to dozens of lawsuits, including alleged claimant referrals, treatment, and repeated false medical and billing records. “Dozens” describes the conduct Uber alleged; it is not a verified count of fraudulent lawsuits. | On May 11, 2026, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania held that the racketeering claims were sufficiently pleaded to proceed at that stage. An August 27, 2026 opinion dismissed the lawyers’ civil-extortion counterclaim with prejudice and certain other counterclaims without prejudice. Neither ruling determined whether Uber’s allegations were true. |
| Florida; Uber complaint filed June 11, 2025 | Uber alleges staged crashes, unnecessary care and allegedly false records were used to support injury claims and seek larger settlements. | The complaint says Uber incurred several million dollars in defense costs and settlements. That is Uber’s allegation, not an independently verified loss figure or an adjudicated damages award. No later procedural outcome is established here. |
| New York; Uber complaint filed January 30, 2025 | Uber alleges a network involving law firms and medical providers, and asserts mail fraud, wire fraud, witness bribery and RICO violations. | A trade-publication report published in September 2026 says a federal judge dismissed the suit on August 14, 2026 for pleading deficiencies. The report says the dismissal did not decide whether the alleged conduct occurred; the account should be understood as the publication’s description of the ruling. |
| Los Angeles; reported filing in July 2025 | A June 2026 secondary report says Uber sued attorney Jacob Emrani, his law firm and co-defendants, alleging inflated medical bills and settlement demands linked to minor rideshare accidents. | The available account is a secondary report. A later procedural status is not established here. |
What the Philadelphia rulings do—and do not—say
The Philadelphia case has the clearest described court rulings in the available record. In its May 11, 2026 opinion, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania concluded that Uber and FedEx had pleaded enough to let their racketeering claims proceed past that stage. Judge Mark A. Kearney wrote, “This is not a case involving a single lawsuit supported by allegedly false filings.” He was describing the scope of the plaintiffs’ pleaded theory, which alleged a broader course of conduct than isolated litigation misconduct—not making a factual finding after trial.

A pleading-stage decision addresses whether the allegations, taken under the applicable legal standard, are sufficient for a claim to continue. It is not a verdict, a finding that a defendant committed fraud, or proof that the events occurred as Uber describes them.
The August 27, 2026 opinion concerned counterclaims brought against Uber and FedEx. It dismissed the lawyers’ civil-extortion claim with prejudice and dismissed certain other claims without prejudice. The opinion also explained that the companies had pleaded enough detail for their racketeering claims to proceed. These rulings address different claims and should not be conflated: dismissal of a counterclaim is not a decision on the truth of the companies’ allegations.

Why the cases should not be treated as one lawsuit
Uber filed the complaints in different jurisdictions, against different sets of defendants and with allegations that are not identical. The Philadelphia opinion concerns claims by Uber and FedEx against Simon & Simon P.C. and others described in that case. The New York complaint names a network involving law firms and medical providers; the Los Angeles report identifies Jacob Emrani, his firm and co-defendants. The available Florida summary does not identify defendants by name.
Although the complaints use racketeering theories, the fact that similar categories of conduct appear in multiple cases does not establish a single nationwide enterprise or show that defendants in one case took part in another. Each case must be read on its own allegations and court record.

What is and is not established so far
- Established procedural event: The Philadelphia racketeering claims survived a pleading challenge on May 11, 2026; the August 27 opinion addressed counterclaims.
- Reported procedural event: A September 2026 trade-publication account says the New York suit was dismissed on August 14 for pleading deficiencies, while not resolving whether the alleged conduct occurred.
- Complaint allegations: The Florida, New York and Philadelphia descriptions of crash conduct, referrals, treatment, records and claims are allegations by Uber (and, in Philadelphia, FedEx), not findings that the conduct happened.
- Not established: The available material does not provide an independently verified portfolio-wide count of staged crashes, fraudulent claims or total losses.
For that reason, the most accurate description is that Uber has brought separate lawsuits alleging forms of crash-related injury-claim fraud, with at least one set of racketeering claims allowed to proceed at the pleading stage and another suit reportedly dismissed for pleading deficiencies. None of those procedural developments, as described here, amounts to a trial finding that the alleged scheme occurred.
