Which Lamborghini model was reported?
The most specific identification in the cited coverage came from El País, which named the car as a Lamborghini Huracán in its July 8, 2025, report on the investigation. The initial Associated Press account called it a Lamborghini without specifying a model.
A claim that the vehicle was a Lamborghini Urus is not supported by the reporting cited here. The model identification should therefore be attributed to El País, rather than presented as a detail confirmed by the initial reports or by the full official report.
What did reports say caused the crash?
Early accounts treated a tyre blowout as a possibility
On July 3, AP reported that investigators were examining a suspected tyre blowout while the car was overtaking. The next day, ABC News quoted a Civil Guard spokesperson saying a blowout was believed to have occurred, while noting that the exact speed had not yet been determined pending the report. Those were provisional accounts, not a final public explanation.

Later accounts described the investigation’s findings
On July 8, El País reported that investigators attributed the crash to a rear tyre puncture during an overtake combined with excessive speed. Spanish broadcaster Cadena SER likewise reported that the Civil Guard traffic division had completed its expert report and cited a rear tyre puncture during an overtake and inappropriate speed. Cadena SER also said investigators ruled out poor road condition as a factor.
These accounts do not establish why the tyre failed. They do not identify a tyre maker or specification, or report a proven defect in the Huracán. The reported model’s capabilities are not evidence of the speed at the time of the crash.

Where and when did it happen, and who was driving?
The crash occurred around 00:30 on July 3, 2025, on Spain’s A-52 near Cernadilla, in Zamora province. The car left the road and caught fire; Jota and his brother André Silva died.
AP’s initial account said investigators had not yet determined who was driving. El País later reported that investigators concluded Jota was at the wheel. It quoted the Civil Guard as saying: “Todas las pruebas realizadas por el momento apuntan a que el conductor del vehículo siniestrado era Diogo Jota.” A translation is: “All the tests carried out so far point to Diogo Jota being the driver of the crashed vehicle.”

Cadena SER reported that the Lamborghini had been rented in Barcelona shortly before the crash. El País described the A-52’s speed limit as 120 kilometres per hour and the Huracán’s claimed top speed as 325 kilometres per hour; those are road and model figures reported by the newspaper, not a measured crash speed.
