Buy the specific car that checks out—not the badge or a generic reliability ranking. Confirm its VIN, model year, market, trim, body style, engine and transmission; verify its service and campaign records; then pay for an independent inspection by a technician familiar with that exact vehicle. “Aston Martin V8” spans distinct generations, so the right checks depend on which Vantage you are considering.

Records and road test
Compare the service file with the car’s condition and the specialist’s findings. Pay particular attention to whether claimed major work is supported by invoices and whether drivetrain behaviour on the road test matches the documented history. How to compare the cars you actually find
There is no supported universal cost or reliability winner between a CLE and the different V8 Vantage generations. Compare the individual examples on evidence:
- How complete and independently corroborated is the service and repair history?
- Are any campaigns open, and can completed work be confirmed?
- What do diagnostics and the road test show?
