GeoOrbital’s electric bicycle wheel left Shark Tank without a deal. Although the company attracted Kickstarter backing and later sold through retail channels, subsequent reporting indicates it stopped selling the wheel and appears inactive. There is no verified shutdown date or confirmation of the company’s current legal status.
What was the GeoOrbital Wheel?
GeoOrbital designed a replacement front wheel intended to turn a conventional bicycle into an electric bike. Rather than mounting a conventional conversion kit onto the frame, the product placed its functional components inside the wheel’s central space. During the TV pitch, the founders demonstrated installation without tools.

Compatibility depended on the bicycle and the wheel version. GeoOrbital’s Kickstarter FAQ said the models available then did not support disc brakes, while noting that the company hoped to add that capability later. That historical note does not establish compatibility for every version, and the available sources do not provide enough detail to determine whether a particular bicycle would fit.

What happened on Shark Tank?
Founders Dakota Decker and Michael Burtov asked the Sharks for $500,000 in exchange for 5% equity. They left without an investment deal.

By the time of the televised pitch, the product had already gained crowdfunding attention. A 2023 SlashGear retrospective reported that the Kickstarter campaign had raised more than $1.26 million before the show and that GeoOrbital had distribution with Best Buy. These are reported figures and past business activity; they do not indicate current sales.
What happened to the company after the show?
Reports describe GeoOrbital selling through Amazon and Best Buy after its appearance and pursuing further fundraising and a public-safety sales effort. Those accounts document earlier commercial activity, not whether those sales channels remain open.

In its retrospective, SlashGear said the company’s online shop page had disappeared during 2020 and that the website did not offer a way to buy a new wheel at the time of reporting. It also reported that meaningful social updates had stopped and that co-founder Dakota Decker left for another company in 2019. A 2025 Shark Tank business update described GeoOrbital as out of business.
Together, those reports support the conclusion that GeoOrbital stopped selling the wheel and appears inactive. They do not establish exactly when the business closed, or confirm its present legal status.

Can you still buy a GeoOrbital Wheel?
The available reporting does not show that GeoOrbital still sells new wheels; SlashGear said the company’s site offered no way to purchase one when it reported on the business. A past Amazon or Best Buy listing is not proof of present availability. If you find a used wheel or an old listing, confirm that it is actually for sale and check its condition, included components, and fit for your bicycle before buying.
What to check if you want to electrify a bicycle now
GeoOrbital’s apparent inactivity does not mean the broader conversion-kit category is unavailable. For any currently offered product, check the specific listing and manufacturer information rather than assuming the old GeoOrbital design or its compatibility applies.
