ESPN2’s U.S. listing showed Grand Prix coverage beginning at 11:55 a.m. ET. That was the network’s coverage time, not the official scheduled race start: the race itself was set for 12:00 p.m. ET. The official Formula 1 timetable noted that session times were subject to change.
2025 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix schedule
São Paulo was one of the 2025 season’s sprint weekends. That meant there was only one regular F1 practice session, sprint qualifying took place Friday, and both the sprint and Grand Prix qualifying took place Saturday.
| Session | Date | São Paulo time | U.S. Eastern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Practice 1 | Friday, November 7 | 11:30 a.m. | 9:30 a.m. |
| Sprint qualifying | Friday, November 7 | 3:30 p.m. | 1:30 p.m. |
| Sprint | Saturday, November 8 | 11:00 a.m. | 9:00 a.m. |
| Grand Prix qualifying | Saturday, November 8 | 3:00 p.m. | 1:00 p.m. |
| Grand Prix | Sunday, November 9 | 2:00 p.m. | 12:00 p.m. |
These are the official session start times converted from São Paulo local time. ESPN’s U.S. listings sometimes began a few minutes earlier to provide pre-session or pre-race coverage. Its compact schedule also omitted the sprint sessions, so the official F1 timetable is the better source for the complete weekend structure.
What time was the race in different time zones?
São Paulo was three hours behind UTC during the event, and the United States had returned to standard time by November 9. The race-start conversions were:

For U.S. readers, the correct November abbreviations were EST, CST, MST, and PST, not daylight-saving-time abbreviations. Canada spans several time zones, so Canadian viewers should use their city or local broadcaster’s listing rather than assuming one nationwide time.
How U.S. viewers watched the 2025 race
ESPN held the U.S. television rights for the 2025 event. The session-by-session lineup was:
| Session | U.S. network |
|---|---|
| Practice 1 | ESPN2 |
| Sprint qualifying | ESPN2 |
| Sprint | ESPN2 |
| Grand Prix qualifying | ESPNEWS |
| Grand Prix | ESPN2 |
ESPN’s contemporaneous U.S. viewing guide listed Practice 1, Grand Prix qualifying, and the race, but did not include the sprint sessions in its abbreviated schedule. Spanish-language coverage was also listed on ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes.
Streaming options
U.S. viewers generally needed access to a television package or live-TV streaming service that carried ESPN2 or ESPNEWS. ESPN’s digital platforms could also require a qualifying television-provider subscription or event-specific entitlement. ESPN+ should not automatically be treated as equivalent to ESPN2 access; viewers needed to confirm the event listing and their subscription’s rights.

F1 TV Pro offered live coverage of F1 sessions in selected countries, but it was not a universal option. Availability, blackout rules, and replay access depended on the viewer’s territory.
Important U.S. rights update
The 2025 ESPN information is now historical. Apple became Formula 1’s exclusive new U.S. broadcast partner beginning in 2026, according to Apple’s announcement. Therefore, current U.S. viewers should not assume that ESPN2 remains the U.S. home of F1 or that the 2025 replay is still available through the same service.

Brazilian coverage
For viewers in Brazil, Band’s own 2025 event guide identified Band free-to-air television, BandSports, Band.com.br, and Bandplay as coverage options. Rádio Bandeirantes and BandNews FM also carried radio coverage. Those services should not be assumed to be available outside Brazil or to remain the current rights holders.

Why was qualifying on Saturday?
The São Paulo Grand Prix was the fifth sprint weekend of the 2025 F1 season. Under the sprint format, teams had one regular practice session on Friday before sprint qualifying. The short sprint followed on Saturday morning, and qualifying for Sunday’s Grand Prix took place Saturday afternoon.
The format also increased the maximum points available. A driver could score up to 33 points across the weekend: eight for winning the sprint and 25 for winning the Grand Prix, before any additional fastest-lap considerations that might apply under the sporting regulations.

At the time the event began, Lando Norris led the drivers’ championship. Oscar Piastri was one point behind him, while Max Verstappen was 36 points behind Norris. Those standings were the situation entering the November 2025 weekend and should not be read as current championship information.
The sprint format made the round particularly important because as many as 33 points were available to one driver. The completed event ultimately ended with Norris in first, Kimi Antonelli second, and Verstappen third. The official Formula 1 result records the final classification.
