Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is driver assistance, not autonomous driving. In Europe, Tesla’s Netherlands support material now refers to the package as Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD). Tesla describes it as able to handle a broad range of route-following maneuvers, but the driver must keep watching the road, monitor the vehicle and be ready to take control. Availability also depends on country approval and the specific vehicle. Tesla’s country list and the Dutch subscription price below reflect its support information checked on October 9, 2026; confirm the current position before relying on the feature.
What the name means—and what it does not
“Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” can sound like a promise that the car will drive on its own. Tesla’s own European-facing support guidance draws a different boundary: the package does not make the vehicle fully autonomous and is not a replacement for the driver. Its Netherlands support page now uses the name Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD), illustrating that terminology and feature bundles can vary by market.

In practical terms, the software can assist with driving tasks while following a route, but the person at the wheel remains responsible for monitoring the car and the traffic around it. You must keep your eyes on the road, stay attentive and be ready to intervene. Do not treat an engaged system as permission to look away, disengage from driving or assume the vehicle will resolve every situation correctly.
The distinction matters both for safety and for interpreting feature descriptions. Tesla’s wording about operating on many roads or handling maneuvers describes intended capabilities; it is not a guarantee that a maneuver will be completed successfully on every road, in every traffic situation or under every condition. The driver must be prepared to take over whenever the circumstances require it.

What Tesla says the system can do
Tesla’s Dutch support page describes route-following assistance across a range of roads, including residential and urban streets, as well as motorways. Depending on the vehicle, software, region and available functions, the described tasks include:
- Changing lanes and following road turns.
- Taking an exit that matches the navigation route, and entering or leaving motorways.
- Turning left or right, stopping at intersections and proceeding through them.
- Negotiating roundabouts and navigating around vehicles or objects.
- Automatically parking in parallel or perpendicular spaces.
- Using app-supervised Summon functions.
These are Tesla’s descriptions of the package’s functions, not independent verification that each feature is available on every car or will work in every location. A feature’s presence in a general product description does not establish that it is enabled for your country, your vehicle configuration or your installed software. The route-following maneuvers should be understood as assistance that requires driver supervision, not as a transfer of responsibility to the car.
For a useful comparison between cars or markets, look beyond the package name. Compare the maneuvers actually included, the vehicle hardware and software eligibility, local regulatory approval and border behavior, the driver-monitoring and intervention duties, and the subscription price and terms. Tesla’s material shows these factors can differ; it does not support a conclusion that one country’s version is safer or more capable than another’s.
Recommended Free Tools
Speed is not a recommendation
Tesla says activation is available below 140 km/h or the local posted maximum, subject to system availability. That figure is an activation condition in Tesla’s support description—not a recommended speed, a claim that the system is suitable at that speed in all circumstances, or permission to exceed the applicable limit. The driver remains responsible for speed and control.
What the system cannot do for you
Tesla expressly says TAD does not make the vehicle fully autonomous. You cannot treat it as an unattended driver, leave the road and traffic unobserved, or rely on it to handle every obstacle, junction or change in conditions without intervention. Keep supervising continuously and be ready to take control; Tesla also says users should disable functions if needed.
That supervision requirement applies even when a maneuver appears routine or the vehicle is following navigation. A correct route instruction does not guarantee that the car will select or execute the right action for the immediate situation. Similarly, descriptions such as “almost anywhere” are product language, not a promise of universal road coverage or success. The useful mental model is that the system may assist with a broad set of driving tasks while you remain the active safety backstop.

So, can you take your hands off the wheel and stop supervising? No. The guidance supplied here specifically requires eyes on the road, continuous monitoring and readiness to intervene. Even if the vehicle is carrying out a turn, lane change or parking maneuver, the driver remains responsible. The feature name and the breadth of its advertised tasks do not change that duty.

As of the Tesla Netherlands support information checked on October 9, 2026, its page listed these eight European countries for TAD availability:
| Country | Listed by Tesla’s Netherlands support page as of October 9, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Netherlands | Yes |
| Lithuania | Yes |
| Estonia | Yes |
| Denmark | Yes |
| Belgium | Yes |
| Slovenia | Yes |
| Czech Republic | Yes |
| Croatia | Yes |
This is a dated list from Tesla’s Netherlands support page, not a guarantee that the package is currently available in every vehicle in those countries or that the same functions apply everywhere. Country approval and vehicle eligibility are separate questions: a country may appear on the list while a particular car still lacks the required configuration or software. Because Tesla says availability can change, check its current country information before making a trip or purchase decision.
What happens when you cross an unapproved border
Tesla says activation is blocked in regions where the feature has not been approved. If TAD is active when a vehicle enters an unapproved country, Tesla says the system gives a border warning and then disables it. Do not plan a route on the assumption that the system will remain available after crossing a border.
Before travelling, check the current country list and confirm eligibility for your own vehicle. If a route crosses a country where Tesla has not listed approval, plan to drive without TAD for that portion. The feature’s behavior at an unapproved border, as described by Tesla, is a software availability restriction; it does not establish what every local law permits or how every other driver-assistance feature behaves.

Border behavior is therefore a practical travel issue as well as an approval issue. A car that can activate the feature on one side of a border may not be able to continue using it on the other. Check each country on the route rather than assuming that approval in your home market carries over throughout Europe, and be prepared to take over before the system is disabled.

Approval is not the same as a Europe-wide legal ruling
European availability should not be reduced to a single yes-or-no answer about whether “FSD is legal in Europe.” Tesla’s information is region-specific, and the list above is from its Netherlands support material. Approval, activation and the functions included can vary by country. The available material does not establish a universal legal position for every European country, so check the current local and Tesla information for the places where you will drive.
A dated statement from the Dutch vehicle authority RDW, published on March 20, 2026, said that Tesla and RDW were completing the last steps of an assessment after an intensive joint test program that had begun around 18 months earlier. RDW said it was analyzing data and test results before deciding on admission, with traffic safety its priority. That statement records the status of the Dutch assessment on that date; it does not itself establish the present status in the Netherlands or the law in other countries.
That distinction is important when reading news about regulatory review. A regulator describing an assessment or pending decision is not the same as a Europe-wide approval, nor is it proof that every version of the feature is available in every market. For a decision about a specific journey, use current country-specific information rather than treating a dated process update as a ruling for all of Europe.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to check whether your own Tesla qualifies
Country availability alone is not enough. Tesla says access depends on local regulatory approval and the vehicle’s configuration, hardware, installed software, model, trim and model year. The same badge or model name therefore should not be taken as proof that two cars have identical access.
- Check the current country information. Confirm that Tesla currently lists the country where you intend to use the feature, rather than relying on an old list or another market’s page.
- Check your vehicle in the Tesla app. Tesla says existing owners can manage a subscription through the app. Use the vehicle-specific information there to see whether the feature is offered for your car and market.
- Check the car’s current software information. Confirm the installed software and the feature status shown for the vehicle; Tesla identifies software and hardware as eligibility factors.
- Verify again before crossing borders. If the trip includes a country without approval, expect activation to be blocked or an active system to be disabled after a warning at the border.
- Make a supervised-driving plan. If the feature is unavailable, or if you need to disable it, be prepared to drive without it. Regardless of availability, remain attentive and ready to intervene whenever it is engaged.
The available support information does not specify a single exact menu path that applies to every Tesla app version, vehicle model or software release. Use the current vehicle and subscription information presented in your own app and car rather than following instructions for a different configuration.
Netherlands price and subscription context
Tesla’s Netherlands subscription support page lists Tesla Assisted Driving at €99 per month. It says a subscription can be added with a new vehicle order or managed by existing owners through the Tesla app. This is a Netherlands-specific price snapshot, not a Europe-wide quote or a guarantee of the current price, and the package’s actual functions remain subject to eligibility and local approval.

The subscription is access to a software-assisted driving service, not a physical product. Tesla says price, eligibility and included functions may change and may differ between markets. Check the current offer in your market and the vehicle-specific information before deciding whether to subscribe; the listed Netherlands amount should not be used to estimate the cost elsewhere.
The support information cited here does not set out a Europe-wide price, a single cancellation rule or identical subscription terms for every market. Before subscribing, confirm the price, what is included, whether your vehicle qualifies and the current subscription terms in the Tesla app or local Tesla information. A monthly price in one market is not enough to compare the total cost or value in another.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to interpret Tesla’s safety claims
Tesla publishes company-reported safety comparisons, but those are Tesla’s claims, not independent findings about a Europe-wide safety advantage. The opened Tesla safety material notes methodological constraints in comparing crash reporting with vehicle-distance data. Any numerical comparison needs to be read with its stated scope and method intact; a multiplier detached from those qualifications can be misleading.
The RDW statement dated March 20, 2026 describes an assessment process and the regulator’s planned analysis of test data. It is not an independent Europe-wide validation of Tesla’s safety claims. The available official material does not establish an independent European statistic that can be generalized across countries, models and driving conditions. Keep company-reported figures and regulator statements distinct.
Before relying on it on a European trip
- Confirm the current country approval information for every country on your route.
- Confirm that your specific car’s hardware, model, trim, model year and installed software qualify.
- Check the current feature set and subscription terms for your market; do not assume another country’s bundle or price applies.
- Expect the system to be unavailable in an unapproved country, including after the border warning and deactivation Tesla describes.
- Stay focused on driving and ready to take control for the entire time the system is active.

Is Tesla FSD legal in my European country?
There is no single Europe-wide answer established by the information here. Tesla’s Netherlands page listed eight countries as of October 9, 2026, but approval and functions vary by market. Check current Tesla and local information for the country where you will drive.
Will Tesla’s system keep working when I cross a border?
Not necessarily. Tesla says activation is blocked in unapproved regions; if the system is active when the car enters one, it gives a border warning and is then disabled. Check every country on your route and be ready to drive without it.
Does every Tesla in a listed country qualify?
No. Tesla says eligibility depends on country approval plus vehicle configuration, hardware, installed software, model, trim and model year. Confirm the status for your own car in the Tesla app and vehicle software information.

How much does the subscription cost?
Tesla’s Netherlands subscription page listed €99 per month when checked for this article. That is a Netherlands-specific snapshot, not a Europe-wide price. Check the current local price, included functions and terms before subscribing.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Tesla describes a capable set of supervised driving and parking tasks, but not an autonomous car. The driver must keep watching and be ready to take over. Country approval, border behavior, vehicle configuration and subscription terms all matter—check current information for your route and your specific Tesla before relying on the feature.
