Lando Norris clinched his first Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and Associated Press reported that McLaren CEO Zak Brown congratulated him over team radio: “Lando, this is Zak from McLaren. Is this the world champion hotline? You did it! You did it! Awesome.” Norris replied: “Oh my God, thanks so much. I love you guys. Thanks for everything.” These are reported excerpts, not a complete transcript of the broadcast audio.
What did Norris and Brown say on the radio?
In its report on the race, the Associated Press attributed this congratulatory message to McLaren CEO Zak Brown:
“Lando, this is Zak from McLaren. Is this the world champion hotline? You did it! You did it! Awesome.”
AP reported Norris replying:
“Oh my God, thanks so much. I love you guys. Thanks for everything.”

How did Norris win the championship?
Norris entered the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina on 7 December 2025 with a 12-point lead over Max Verstappen and a 16-point lead over McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri. He needed a podium finish to secure the title. Verstappen won the race, Piastri finished second, and Norris took third—enough to become champion by two points over Verstappen in the final standings.

McLaren described Norris’s closing stint as tense: he brought the car home in the podium position needed to clinch the championship. The Formula 1 account of the title also confirms the result and margin.
What else did Norris say after the race?
In McLaren’s post-race account, Norris shared the achievement with the team: “This is not my World Championship, this is ours.” He also thanked the team and his family. The team’s race report, published on 7 December 2025, places the remark in the context of his first title and the season-ending race.

What the season figures say
McLaren’s 2025 season account credits Norris with seven Grand Prix victories, 18 podiums and seven pole positions. McLaren says his 18 podiums were the most by a McLaren driver in a single season. Separately, Formula 1 described Norris as the 35th driver to win the World Championship. These are season and career milestones, not statistics about the radio exchange.
