The JAS Tensei is a limited-production road car that reinterprets the first-generation Honda NSX using an NSX-based chassis, a carbon-fibre body designed by Pininfarina, and a naturally aspirated V6 paired with a six-speed manual. It is a JAS Motorsport project, not a new Honda model. The latest detailed figures reported on October 8, 2026, list 420 CV, 414 Nm and a dry weight of 1,250 kg.
What the JAS Tensei is—and what it is not
JAS Motorsport describes the Tensei as a modern supercar reinterpretation of the first-generation NSX. The car is based on a chassis from the 1990-generation NSX, but the project goes beyond a cosmetic makeover: JAS presents it as a bespoke, limited-production road car with a redesigned body and interior and a substantially reworked mechanical specification.

The name “Tensei” means “rebirth” in Japanese, according to JAS. That idea fits the project’s relationship to the original: it draws on the NSX’s identity and architecture, while giving the car a new form and a distinct powertrain specification. Honda’s official design history dates the original NSX’s launch to 1990 and describes it as a human-oriented sports car. That is useful context for understanding the lineage, but it does not make Honda the maker or endorser of the Tensei.

How the Tensei changes the original NSX
A new body and a bespoke cabin
Pininfarina designed the exterior and interior. JAS describes the body as all carbon fibre, a marked departure from simply refreshing the original NSX’s panels. In its August 2026 announcement, JAS said the revealed styling represented the final production appearance. That describes the announced design, not a separate confirmation that customer cars have been completed or delivered.
The cabin is also intended to be individually specified. JAS says customers can choose from hundreds of customisable interior combinations, and the October 8 report mentions bespoke trim. The number of combinations is a company-published description; the announcement does not set out a full option list, the price of individual choices or how those choices affect delivery timing.
Revised structure and running gear
Quattroruote’s October 8, 2026, report describes a revised structure and dimensions, electronically controlled KW dampers, Brembo brakes and OZ Racing wheels. These details indicate that the work extends to the car’s underpinnings and equipment, not only its styling. The report does not publish a complete engineering breakdown, dimensions, suspension settings or component-by-component comparison with a standard NSX, so the scale of each change cannot be quantified from the published information.

The key distinction is that the Tensei retains an NSX basis while being extensively reworked around it. It should not be described as an untouched donor car with a body kit, nor as a clean-sheet car with no relationship to the NSX. The available description supports the middle ground: a bespoke reinterpretation rooted in the first-generation car’s chassis and identity.
Engine, transmission and published specifications
The latest detailed specification set in the October 8 report centers on a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 developed by Judd Power and based on the Honda C30A block. Quattroruote reports 420 CV at 8,300 rpm and 414 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The official Tensei site also lists 420 bhp. CV and bhp are different unit labels, so these published figures should be quoted as reported rather than treated as two independent output measurements.
Power goes through a six-speed manual gearbox, with a Torsen limited-slip differential. That combination makes the Tensei a distinctly driver-operated proposition on paper: the published configuration uses a manual transmission rather than an automatic. No acceleration time, maximum speed, fuel-consumption figure or independent road-test result is established in the available reporting, so output alone cannot tell a buyer how quick it is in real conditions.

Why the weight and power figures need dates
Some early project figures differ from the later specification report. Quattroruote’s April 27, 2026, preview described 425 CV and an objective of keeping weight below 1,200 kg in running order. Its October 8 report instead gives 420 CV and 1,250 kg dry. These are not interchangeable measurements: dry weight excludes operating fluids and other items that may be included in a running-order figure. The later dry figure does not establish the car’s running-order weight.

For a current specification summary, use the October 8 report’s 420 CV and 1,250 kg dry, while noting that earlier preview figures were different. Do not subtract, average or combine the two weight figures to imply a final curb weight, and do not present the earlier power figure as the latest one.
Published information also does not establish a directly comparable performance test against an original NSX. The Tensei’s output, weight and hardware can be described, but without a common test method and a clearly identified original-car specification, claims that it is definitively faster, lighter or better handling would go beyond the available evidence.

Production, price and availability
JAS announced a run of 35 bespoke examples. That is a planned production volume, not evidence that all 35 have been built, sold or delivered. The available announcements do not establish a customer-delivery date or provide complete production-homologation details.
Current pricing is not clear. Quattroruote’s October 8 report describes the price as reserved. Its April preview quoted €880,000, plus the donor NSX and options, but that earlier figure should not be treated as confirmed current pricing. It is also not a complete, current out-the-door cost: the report attached the donor car and options as additional items, and the later report does not publish a replacement figure.
For prospective customers, the practical questions are therefore not answered by a public price list. The reporting identifies a small planned production run and authorised sales representatives in North America, but it does not say how many build slots remain, what a particular specification costs, what taxes or transport would add, or when a finished car could be delivered. Those details need confirmation from the relevant representative.

Where the Tensei is being presented and sold
JAS’s August 2026 announcement scheduled the Tensei’s public debut at the Paris Motor Show, running October 12–18, 2026. Quattroruote’s October 8 report calls its coverage a world preview. These descriptions can coexist: a media preview ahead of the event is not the same thing as the scheduled public show debut. The show dates are an announced schedule, rather than proof of a particular customer’s opportunity to see or buy the car.
JAS named Graham Rahal Performance as its representative for the United States and Pfaff Reserve for Canada. The June announcement positions these firms as sales partners. It does not establish availability in other markets, local certification status, import costs or a delivery timetable outside the information each representative may provide.
How to assess the Tensei against an original NSX
The useful comparison is not just old versus new, or a single horsepower number. The Tensei uses first-generation NSX architecture and identity, but changes the body, interior and reported mechanical specification. A buyer or enthusiast comparing the two should separate what is documented from what remains unknown.

- Lineage: the original NSX launched in 1990, and JAS says the Tensei is based on a 1990-generation NSX chassis.
- Extent of redesign: JAS describes an all-carbon-fibre body and Pininfarina-designed cabin; Quattroruote reports revised structure and dimensions along with updated suspension and brake equipment.
- Powertrain character: the latest report specifies a naturally aspirated V6, six-speed manual and Torsen differential. These are published configuration details, not a substitute for driving impressions.
- Weight basis: the latest figure is dry weight. The earlier below-1,200-kg objective was stated as running-order weight, so the two cannot be compared as if measured the same way.
- Scarcity and cost: JAS announced 35 cars, while the latest report does not disclose a public price.
This framework helps avoid a misleading one-line verdict. The Tensei’s connection to the NSX is real and specific, but published facts do not establish how it compares dynamically with the original in acceleration, cornering, comfort or reliability. Those judgments require comparable testing or owner experience that is not available in the cited reporting.
What is known—and what remains unconfirmed
The central facts are reasonably clear: JAS is producing a limited NSX-based reinterpretation; Pininfarina designed its carbon-fibre body and interior; the latest detailed report specifies a Judd Power-developed, naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6, manual transmission and 1,250-kg dry weight; and JAS announced 35 examples. The project is being presented as its first high-performance road car.
Other details remain open in the published information: a confirmed current price, verified sale or delivery status, final customer-car weights in running order, complete homologation and market availability, and independent performance testing. Those gaps matter because the Tensei is both a limited bespoke car and a reworked donor-based project; announced specifications do not settle the final cost or the experience of a delivered example.
