The biggest Indian Motorcycle engine listed in the manufacturer’s 2025 model specifications reviewed here is the air-cooled Thunderstroke 116, with a displacement of 116 cubic inches (1,890 cc). Indian offered it in models including the Chief Dark Horse and Springfield Dark Horse. “Biggest” refers to displacement—not horsepower, torque, or the engine’s physical dimensions.
How the 2025 Indian engines compare
The Thunderstroke 116 is larger by displacement than the PowerPlus 112 configuration listed for the 2025 Roadmaster. Their published output figures illustrate why displacement and performance figures should be treated as separate specifications.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. The Chief Dark Horse page describes its Thunderstroke 116 as producing 120 ft-lb of torque for passing power in all six gears. The Springfield Dark Horse listing gives 126 ft-lb for its Thunderstroke 116, so torque is not a single figure shared across every model using that engine.
Does the biggest engine make the most power?
Not necessarily. In the cited specifications, the Roadmaster PowerPlus 112 is listed at 126 hp and 133 ft-lb of peak torque, while the Chief Dark Horse Thunderstroke 116 is listed at 120 ft-lb of peak torque. Those are different motorcycles and engine configurations; the figures do not establish a general performance winner or a direct test comparison. Displacement answers which engine is biggest, while horsepower and torque describe different aspects of output.
