In iSeeCars’ 2026 ranking, the Model 3 has the highest estimated value retention among the Tesla models listed, at 46.4%; the Model X is lowest, at 39.0%. These are model-level estimates—not offers for an individual car—and the dollar figures available apply only to certain models.
Estimated five-year resale value by Tesla model
iSeeCars’ 2026 Tesla ranking reports estimated five-year value retention and average prices for five-year-old vehicles. The percentages and prices are different measures: a retention estimate is not a personalized valuation, and the displayed average price is not a guaranteed sale price.

These figures are from iSeeCars’ Tesla resale-value ranking for 2026. The page describes its percentages as statistical analysis of five-year depreciation from MSRP and displays average prices for five-year-old cars. It does not establish a comparable price for every model or specify a personal sale channel such as private sale or trade-in.
How much do Teslas depreciate in five years?
iSeeCars’ 2026 study estimates five-year depreciation of 54.6% for the Model 3 and 57.8% for the Model Y. Across its sample, the study reports average depreciation of 57.2% for EVs and 41.8% for vehicles overall. It analyzed more than 950,000 five-year-old used cars sold from March 2025 through February 2026, modeling depreciation against inflation-adjusted MSRP.

Those broad averages provide context, not a forecast for a specific Tesla. CarEdge separately reports average five-year depreciation of 61% for new Tesla vehicles. That is a brand-wide estimate, and CarEdge cautions that individual results can vary significantly. Because it uses a different measure and methodology, it should not be averaged with iSeeCars’ model-level figures. Why Tesla resale estimates differ
The estimates answer related but distinct questions. iSeeCars analyzes prices of five-year-old used vehicles sold during a recent defined period. Kelley Blue Book’s 2026 Best Resale Value awards instead use projections from its Official Residual Value Guide for 2026 model-year vehicles. KBB says its residual-value forecasts represent projected future auction values for vehicles in average condition with 75,000 miles at the end of five years.

KBB named the Model 3 its 2026 Best Resale Value electric car. That award is a forecast for the initial five-year period, not a sale price or guarantee for a particular used Model 3. KBB also projects that an average 2026 model-year vehicle will retain about 45% of its original value after five years. This projection is not directly comparable to iSeeCars’ analysis of five-year-old vehicles sold between March 2025 and February 2026. A model-level percentage cannot determine what a particular car will sell for. The estimates above do not account for the full details of an individual vehicle or the local market. A useful valuation needs to match the car and the transaction you have in mind.

- Vehicle details: model, model year, trim, original configuration, and mileage.
- Condition and history: overall condition, accident history, and title status. KBB’s residual forecast assumes average condition and 75,000 miles; it is not a valuation for a car with different characteristics.
- Location and sale method: local supply and demand can affect value, and a private-party sale, dealer trade-in, and auction value are not interchangeable.
How to get a useful estimate for your car
- Identify the exact vehicle. Record its model year, model, trim, configuration, mileage, condition, and accident and title history.
- Choose the value you need. Decide whether you want a private-sale estimate, trade-in value, or auction value; compare like with like.
- Check current, local valuations. Use a valuation service that accepts your vehicle details and location, then compare its estimate with listings for similar cars. Listings show asking prices, not necessarily completed sale prices or offers.
- Use broad studies as context. Treat published five-year percentages as benchmarks rather than multiplying them by what you remember paying. The studies use defined vehicle populations and valuation methods that may not match your car.
