PerthNow reported that contact during a tussle with Jack Le Brocq preceded Pye’s Holden Commodore ZB leaving the circuit and striking the barrier at a reported 175 km/h. Pye walked away under his own power, but the interruption lasted nearly an hour and he missed both afternoon races.
How did Scott Pye’s crash happen?
PerthNow reported that Pye and Jack Le Brocq were tussling on the opening lap of race two when contact occurred. Pye’s Holden Commodore ZB went off the circuit on the main straight, spun and hit a concrete barrier. The report put the impact speed at 175 km/h; that is the figure reported by PerthNow, not an independently confirmed measurement.
After the crash, Pye described the contact this way: “There must have been a slight overlap, but it must have been rear quarter to front bar.” He also said, “I think sometimes people forget they can lift as well.” These were Pye’s comments, not an official ruling on responsibility. The PerthNow report does not establish who was at fault or give a definitive investigation finding about the cause.
Was Scott Pye injured?
PerthNow said Pye walked away from the wreck under his own power and reported that he said he was fine. The report is not a medical assessment and does not provide a diagnosis.

Why was the race stopped, and what happened afterward?
Officials paused the race to clear debris and damage from the circuit. Drivers returned to finish just after 1 p.m., nearly an hour after the race had begun, according to PerthNow. The report said the crash ruled Pye out of both afternoon races.
A separate opening-lap incident involved Lee Holdsworth and rookie Thomas Randle, who collided while contesting position and went into the sand trap. That was a different incident from Pye’s crash.

When and where did the crash take place?
The crash occurred on 1 May 2022 at Wanneroo Raceway during race two of the Perth Supercars event. It should not be confused with the later Perth round scheduled for 31 July to 2 August 2026. The Western Australian Government announced that return date for Wanneroo; it is separate from Pye’s 2022 incident: Western Australian Government announcement.

The contemporary PerthNow account describes contact during a tussle with Le Brocq before Pye’s car left the track. It does not include an official stewards’ decision or establish fault. Accordingly, the sequence and Pye’s own remarks can be reported, but responsibility should not be treated as settled.
