Scout has described the Harvester range extender as a four-cylinder gasoline engine that generates electricity for the vehicle’s high-voltage battery. It does not mechanically drive the wheels. But Scout has not publicly identified the selected engine’s model, displacement, or supplier in the official material reviewed, so the exact engine choice remains unconfirmed.
What engine has Scout confirmed for Harvester?
Scout’s October 2024 reveal described Harvester as using a four-cylinder engine to act as a generator. The company has not named the engine or supplier, or specified its displacement, in the official information reviewed. That means claims identifying a particular Volkswagen engine or engine family should be treated as speculation, not a confirmed selection. Scout says further Harvester specifications are not yet available. Scout’s 2024 reveal
How does the Harvester system work?
Harvester is a gasoline-powered onboard generator. It charges the high-voltage battery, while electric motors drive the wheels; the gasoline engine does not mechanically propel them. Scout describes the vehicles as range-extended electric vehicles, or EREVs. The setup differs from a conventional hybrid in which an engine can send power directly to the wheels. What range does Scout project?
For Harvester-equipped vehicles, Scout projects approximately 150 miles of electric-only driving and more than 500 miles of total range. The electric-only figure describes travel before the generator is needed to extend the trip; the combined figure includes the range-extending system. These are Scout projections, not EPA ratings or independently verified results. Scout says EPA estimates will be provided when available. Scout Motors Help Center, June 25, 2026

How do performance and availability compare?
Scout projects a 0–60 mph time as quick as 4.5 seconds for Harvester vehicles and 3.5 seconds for fully electric versions. It cautions that acceleration varies by vehicle and configuration; these are projections, not production-vehicle test results. Scout Motors

Scout’s public material reviewed does not establish the engine’s exact model, displacement, supplier, or output. It also does not provide fuel economy, fuel-tank capacity, towing impact, or EPA-certified range. Until Scout publishes those details, the four-cylinder description is the limit of what can be stated as confirmed about the engine.
