If you mean the curved strips along the top edge of a car’s side windows, they’re usually called side window deflectors, rain guards, or window visors.
What do car window deflectors do?
They’re designed to let fresh air circulate when a side window is open slightly while helping keep rain or snow out. Chevrolet also describes them as potentially helping minimize sun glare; one product listing says they can help reduce wind noise associated with an open window. These are product claims, not measured performance figures. Chevrolet Accessories and another Chevrolet listing use the terms rain guards and window visors for this type of accessory.
How are they installed?
Tape-on deflectors
Tape-on models attach to the window frame. Check the product listing for the vehicle fit and any included installation materials; details vary by set. Chevrolet’s tape-on listing is one example.
In-channel deflectors
In-channel models fit into the window channel instead of attaching to the frame with tape. For example, Chevrolet’s in-channel listing identifies this as a separate style.

What should you check before buying?
- Vehicle fit: Match the year, make, model, and body style. These accessories are vehicle-specific.
- Installation style: Choose between tape-on and in-channel designs, and make sure the product’s instructions suit your preference.
- Window coverage: Check whether the set covers the front windows only or includes front and rear windows.
- Product details: Material, finish, and included parts vary by listing, so confirm them on the specific product page.
For example, Chevrolet’s tape-on listing and another tape-on listing describe different products; neither listing’s specifications should be assumed to apply to every deflector.

The name depends on what the item looks like. A curved strip along the top of the side-window frame is a deflector, rain guard, or window visor. A removable shade that covers the glass, or tint film applied to it, is a different product.
