The cheapest four-cylinder SUV among the models verified here is the 2026 Hyundai Venue: Hyundai lists a $20,550 starting MSRP before freight and other charges. That is not an apples-to-apples delivered-price ranking, however. A July 2026 Cars.com comparison includes destination and identifies several four-cylinder candidates, but its ten-SUV list also includes the three-cylinder Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer. The available figures do not establish a reliable top ten of the cheapest four-cylinder SUVs, so this guide separates confirmed candidates from the unverified ranking rather than presenting a misleading list.
What are the cheapest four-cylinder SUVs?
For 2026 U.S. models, the most affordable confirmed example in the available sources is the front-wheel-drive Hyundai Venue. Hyundai lists its starting MSRP at $20,550, excluding freight and other charges. Among the models Cars.com identifies as four-cylinder vehicles, the Venue is followed by candidates including the Kia Seltos, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Toyota Corolla Cross, Hyundai Kona and Mazda CX-30. Their prices below use Cars.com’s July 2026 figures, which include destination but exclude taxes and incentives; they are not directly comparable with Hyundai’s MSRP excluding freight.
Cars.com’s broader July 2026 list of the ten least expensive new SUVs is not a four-cylinder ranking. It includes the Chevrolet Trax and Chevrolet Trailblazer, both of which Cars.com identifies as turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder vehicles. Filtering those out means the source’s list cannot establish the ten cheapest four-cylinder models. The table is therefore a set of verified examples, not a definitive top ten.
Confirmed four-cylinder SUV candidates and published prices
| 2026 model and base trim | Published price and basis | Engine and output | Drive and other useful details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Venue SE | $20,550 starting MSRP, excluding freight and other charges (Hyundai) | 1.6-liter four-cylinder, 121 hp (Cars.com) | Front-wheel drive; CVT. Hyundai lists up to 33 mpg highway for specified trims. |
| Kia Seltos LX FWD | $23,790 starting MSRP before destination, taxes, title, license, options and retailer charges (Kia, June 27, 2025); Cars.com lists $25,285 including destination. | 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 147 hp (Kia) | Front-wheel drive on LX. A 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 hp is available on SX AWD. |
| Toyota Corolla Cross gas L | 2026 gas models start at $24,635 (Toyota, September 24, 2025); Cars.com lists the L at $26,830 including destination. | 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 169 hp (Cars.com) | CVT; Cars.com reports 32 mpg combined for the FWD version. Toyota’s starting-price statement covers gas models, not just the L trim. |
| Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 S | $26,790 including destination (Cars.com, July 2026) | 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 148 hp (Cars.com) | Standard AWD and CVT. |
| Hyundai Kona SE | $27,100 including destination (Cars.com, July 2026) | 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 147 hp (Cars.com) | CVT; 31 mpg combined (Cars.com). Higher trims use a turbocharged four-cylinder, so the engine depends on trim. |
| Mazda CX-30 2.5 S | $27,870 including destination (Cars.com, July 2026) | 2.5-liter four-cylinder, 186 hp (Cars.com) | Standard AWD, six-speed automatic and 27 mpg combined (Cars.com). |
These are source-specific published figures, not dealer quotes. The Cars.com amounts include destination and exclude incentives and taxes; the Hyundai and Kia manufacturer prices use different conventions. Toyota’s release gives a starting price for gas models rather than a destination-included price for the table’s specific trim. Confirm the current window sticker and local charges before comparing offers.

Which four-cylinder SUV is cheapest?
On the published starting MSRP that is explicitly available, the 2026 Hyundai Venue is the cheapest confirmed four-cylinder example at $20,550 before freight and other charges. Do not compare that figure directly with a destination-included price and treat the result as a final ranking: freight, destination, taxes, dealer-installed options, markups and incentives can change the amount a buyer pays. The July 2026 Cars.com figure for the Venue is $22,150 including destination, illustrating why the price basis matters.
The same caution applies to the Kia Seltos: Kia’s $23,790 LX FWD starting MSRP is before destination and other charges, while Cars.com lists $25,285 including destination. Those prices describe different bases, not a price disagreement that can be resolved by simply choosing the lower number.

How to compare four-cylinder SUVs beyond the sticker price
Check the exact engine and trim
“Four-cylinder” describes the engine layout, not how an SUV performs. The Venue, Seltos, Outlander Sport, Corolla Cross, Kona and CX-30 examples above use naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines in the cited base configurations. The Seltos also offers a turbocharged four-cylinder in the SX AWD, and higher Kona trims use a turbocharged four-cylinder. Turbocharging and trim changes can affect output, equipment and price; verify the engine for the specific vehicle being quoted.
Compare drivetrain and fuel economy
The lowest-priced configuration may be front-wheel drive, while AWD can be standard or available on other models. In these examples, the Venue is FWD, the Outlander Sport 2.0 S and CX-30 2.5 S are AWD, and the cited Seltos LX is FWD. The Corolla Cross FWD figure and CX-30 combined figure cited above are not a complete, uniform fuel-economy comparison across all trims. Check the EPA estimate for the exact drivetrain and engine you plan to buy, and weigh it against your need for AWD.

Price the equipment you will actually use
Published base price alone does not tell you whether a vehicle has the driver-assistance features, infotainment equipment, cargo room or cabin space you need. The available figures do not establish a like-for-like standard-equipment comparison across these models. Check each automaker’s current trim specifications and compare the equipment on the exact trims, rather than assuming that similarly priced base models include the same features.

A defensible top ten requires the same model year, a confirmed four-cylinder engine on the qualifying base trim, and a consistent price basis that includes destination. Cars.com’s July 2026 list supplies destination-included prices for ten broad SUV entries, but two entries are three-cylinder vehicles and the list does not, by itself, verify replacement candidates’ current qualifying trims and comparable prices. The 2026 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES is a possible additional four-cylinder candidate: Autoblog’s April 22, 2026 segment guide reports a $27,695 price and a 152-hp 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with standard AWD. That source does not establish a destination-inclusive price basis, so it cannot be confidently slotted into a consistent cheapest-ten ranking here.
For a fair shopping comparison, use manufacturer pricing for the same model year and trim, add destination or freight consistently, and leave out taxes, dealer-installed options, markups and conditional incentives unless you show them separately. Then confirm the engine and drivetrain on the window sticker. Prices and trim availability can change, so check the automaker’s current information and a local quote before making a purchase decision.
