A video published by Jeremy Judkins on May 2, 2024, shows him testing the Tesla Cybertruck’s powered frunk with his arm, hand and finger. Judkins says Tesla told him he had performed the test incorrectly. Although the video title says the experiment broke his finger, the available description does not provide a medical diagnosis or independently verify the injury. Tesla’s owner’s manual, meanwhile, instructs users to keep people and objects clear of the hood area and hands and objects clear before closing.
What happened in the Cybertruck frunk video?
In “Do NOT put your finger in the Tesla Cybertruck Frunk,” published May 2, 2024, Judkins says Tesla had released an update intended to make the frunk safer. He describes trying the powered closure with his arm, hand and finger, and says Tesla told him he had done the test incorrectly.
Those details are Judkins’s account in the video and its description. The description says the frunk responded differently across the tests, but it does not establish a controlled result or a general rule for how the mechanism behaves. The title’s broken-finger wording is not, by itself, independent confirmation of a medical diagnosis or injury severity.
What does Tesla’s manual say about the powered frunk?
Tesla’s North American Cybertruck Owner’s Manual, listed as software version 2026.32, gives these safety instructions:

- Before opening or closing, check that the area around the hood is clear of people and objects. Tesla warns, “Failure to do so may result in damage or serious injury.”
- Before closing, “Ensure that all hands and other objects are free of the powered frunk.”
- Be cautious around panel edges. The manual specifically includes the powered frunk among the Cybertruck’s doors, tailgate and surrounding panels.
- Do not manually close the powered frunk.
Some feature availability, including hands-free operation, depends on market region, vehicle configuration and manufacture date. Consult the manual applicable to your vehicle rather than assuming every Cybertruck has identical features.
Why the video is not a safe way to test the frunk
The video documents a creator’s experiment, not a recommended safety check. Tesla’s instructions are to keep body parts and objects clear—not to place a hand or finger in the closure path to see how the system reacts. The video’s reported variation also cannot establish what a particular frunk will do in normal use or under different conditions.

If a powered frunk appears to malfunction, do not reproduce the experiment. Follow the applicable owner’s manual and seek help through Tesla service channels.
