The available 2025 figures point to several efficient midsize hybrid SUVs, but they do not establish a defensible top ten or a single winner across every configuration. The highest cited combined ratings are 36 mpg for specified front-wheel-drive (FWD) Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid trims and the FWD Kia Sorento Hybrid; the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is also reported at up to 36 mpg. Because trim and drivetrain can change a vehicle’s rating, compare exact configurations rather than treating a model name as one MPG figure.
2025 midsize hybrid SUVs with published fuel-economy figures
These are useful comparison points, not a ranked top ten. The available sources do not substantiate enough individual vehicles and configurations to fill ten places reliably. The figures below are attributed to their publishers; they are not all drawn from the same rating page, so check the EPA record or vehicle label for the exact configuration you are considering.

Why this is not a reliable top-ten ranking
“Midsize SUV” can mean an EPA size class or a broader editorial category, and the title does not specify whether to include two-row and three-row models, plug-in hybrids, or electric vehicles. Those choices affect which vehicles qualify and how their energy-use figures should be compared. The figures available here support a short set of examples, not the ten individually verified entries needed for an ordered list.
A sound ranking needs a consistent eligibility rule and the EPA city, highway, and combined rating for each exact model-year, trim, and drivetrain combination. Without those details, filling the remaining slots or ordering the examples as though they had all been compared on the same basis would imply more certainty than the published figures establish.

How to compare MPG and MPGe fairly
EPA combined MPG is a weighted average of city and highway ratings, with city driving weighted 55% and highway driving 45%. It is a standardized comparison measure, not a guarantee of what an individual owner will achieve. If electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids operating in electric mode are included, their labels use miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent (MPGe) for electricity use. MPGe is not ordinary gasoline MPG; list it separately, alongside electric range, rather than blending it into a liquid-fuel MPG ranking.

What to check before choosing a model
- Match the configuration: verify the model year, trim, and FWD or AWD drivetrain. A model’s best advertised rating may not apply to the version you want.
- Use vehicle-specific EPA data: EPA’s automotive-trends summaries for 2025 are preliminary, not final ratings for every individual vehicle. The agency’s vehicle-data resources and current vehicle record are the relevant checks for a specific configuration.
- Decide which utility matters: seating rows, cargo needs, and drivetrain availability are useful alongside fuel economy, but they do not replace an MPG comparison.
- Treat real-world results separately: Edmunds reported that its long-term Santa Fe Hybrid averaged 27.5 mpg over roughly 20,000 miles. That is one vehicle’s observed use, not an EPA estimate or a prediction for all owners.
