Western Australia crashes: Two dead, four children injured and teen seriously hurt

PerthNow reported two deaths and serious injuries in separate Western Australian crashes on 4–5 December 2014, including four injured children in Geraldton and a 17-year-old in Wongan Hills.

PerthNow reported two deaths and several serious injuries in separate crashes across Western Australia on 4–5 December 2014. The incidents were in Bindoon, Ludlow, Geraldton, Wongan Hills and Wattle Grove; they were not one collision. The account below reflects what the newspaper reported at the time, not later medical or investigative outcomes.

What happened in the Bindoon truck rollover?

At about 7 a.m. on 5 December 2014, a stock truck rolled on Bindoon-Moora Road near Great Northern Highway, about 90 kilometres north-east of Perth. PerthNow reported that emergency crews tried to free the trapped driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for several hours while a crane righted the truck.

What happened in the Ludlow crash?

A man in his early 60s died after his Peugeot sedan left Tuart Drive at about 7:15 p.m. on 4 December, struck a tree and caught fire, according to PerthNow. The report described the Bindoon death as the second fatality in 24 hours, referring to the Ludlow crash.

What happened to the father and four children in Geraldton?

PerthNow reported that a car carrying a father and four children veered onto the wrong side of the road and hit a tree. The children were aged four, six, seven and eight. They were badly hurt and reported in stable condition at hospitals in Perth and Geraldton.

Police were investigating whether the six-year-old, who was thrown from the vehicle, had been wearing a seatbelt. The report did not establish the outcome of that inquiry.

What happened in the Wongan Hills crash?

At about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, 4 December, a Hyundai sedan travelling east on Calingiri-Wongan Hills Road crossed onto the wrong side and hit a tree. Firefighters cut the 17-year-old driver from the car. PerthNow said he was flown to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries; it did not report a later outcome.

What was reported about the Wattle Grove crash?

The article also briefly reported that a 30-year-old woman, her 14-month-old child and a police officer were injured in a crash involving a police car at Hale Road and Tonkin Highway. It gave no further details.
