But the wheel is not empty. Its unusual appearance comes from an integrated in-wheel motor assembly—and the version Ars Technica rode in July 2024 was a 540-pound, high-performance electric motorcycle that felt powerful and heavy, with a low center of gravity and selectable ride modes.
How the TS Pro’s “hubless” rear wheel works
The TS Pro does not have a wheel rotating around empty space. Its motor is built into an unconventional assembly at the rear wheel: a larger-diameter motor structure is integrated with the swingarm, while bearings support the wheel around it. Copper-coil electromagnets in the motor interact with magnets in the wheel; energizing the coils turns the wheel around the motor assembly.
That arrangement removes the chain and gives the bike its distinctive open-looking rear wheel. Verge calls the design a patented hubless rear-wheel motor. “Hubless-looking” is the more literal description: the motor and wheel form an integrated structure, even though there is no conventional central hub visible.
Putting the motor at the wheel also frees space in the motorcycle’s body for the battery, as WIRED noted in its earlier first-ride coverage. The unusual layout is the reason the bike looks so different, but it does not by itself establish how the motorcycle compares with other electric bikes on efficiency, handling or serviceability.

What Ars Technica found on its 2024 ride
Ars Technica’s July 2024 test covered an earlier TS Pro, not the substantially updated motorcycle Verge announced in November 2025. The test bike had a 20.2 kWh battery and a reported curb weight of 540 lb (245 kg). Ars listed claimed range at 217 miles in the city and 124 miles on the highway.
During that morning’s ride, the reviewer said the dashboard’s remaining-range estimate did not fall below 150 miles, despite hard acceleration and top-speed testing. That is one rider’s observation of a displayed estimate, not a controlled range test or proof of real-world range on a full charge.
Power, modes and weight
The bike’s acceleration stood out, but the torque did not have to arrive all at once. The test article notes that four selectable ride modes make the torque figure less intimidating. Ars described the motorcycle as unusually powerful and heavy, while also reporting a low center of gravity. Those impressions belong to that ride and that test bike; they are not a substitute for a measured comparison with other motorcycles.

One rider’s ergonomics impressions
WIRED’s earlier first-ride reviewer, who is 5 ft 7 in, found the reach to the handlebars uncomfortable and said reading the central display required looking down from the road. The same rider described strong brakes and substantial acceleration, but also a slightly twitchy throttle. These are individual impressions, not a fit assessment that applies to every rider.

Verge announced a new TS Pro at EICMA on 4 November 2025, with a second-generation Donut Motor and a new battery. Its launch announcement gave the updated bike a weight of 230 kg and 0–60 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds. Verge said the Donut Motor 2.0 retained 1,000 Nm of torque while weighing 50% less than its predecessor. Electrive’s 10 November 2025 report recapped those company figures and listed output at 102 kW.
These are figures for the updated model, not the 2024 Ars test bike. The numbers also use different units and do not establish a direct weight comparison under identical measurement conditions.

Current TS Pro specifications, range and charging
Verge’s current US TS Pro product page lists the following specifications and performance claims. They are manufacturer-published figures, not independent test results.

| Claimed maximum range | Up to 217 miles | Up to 370 miles |
| Claimed charging addition | Up to 124 miles in under 10 minutes, at up to 100 kW | Up to 186 miles in under 10 minutes, at up to 200 kW |
The same current US page lists 737 lb-ft of torque, 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a 124 mph top speed. Its range figures are maximum manufacturer claims; the sources cited here do not independently validate the 370-mile figure or current rapid-charging performance. Verge describes the battery as all-solid-state and calls it the first in motorcycling; that, too, is the company’s claim.

The numbers have changed with the model and the date. Verge’s November 2025 announcement described the updated bike with a 20.2 kWh battery, up to 217 miles of range and charging in under 35 minutes. The current product page now lists two battery choices and faster, distance-based charging claims. Compare specifications only after confirming which model year and configuration an offer refers to.

The 2024 Ars test bike used CCS1. In that article, Ars said Verge had announced a future US J3400 connector; Verge’s current product page describes NACS fast charging as well as AC charging. That timeline makes it risky to assume that every TS Pro uses the same connector. Confirm the connector and charging compatibility for the precise model year, configuration and market before ordering.
Current US price, delivery and warranty information
Verge’s current US product page lists base pricing from $29,900 and Special Edition pricing from $30,900, before tax, delivery and regional fees. It gives estimated TS Pro deliveries of Q4 2026 in the EU and US, and Q4 2027 in the UK and other regions. These are current estimates from Verge, not guaranteed delivery dates; check the page and order terms for the configuration and location you are considering.
Verge says it offers delivery in 11 countries and lists test-ride hubs in Los Angeles and Santa Clara, subject to local availability. The company lists a 24-month motorcycle warranty and a five-year power-battery warranty, plus global service support. The summary is not a replacement for the complete warranty terms, so review those terms for exclusions, coverage and the relevant market.
Quick Recap
What to take from the test
- The eye-catching rear wheel is an in-wheel motor assembly, not a wheel spinning around an empty center.
- Ars Technica’s 2024 ride concerned an earlier TS Pro; its mass, battery and road impressions should not be assigned automatically to the updated model.
- The 2024 test reported strong performance and substantial weight, alongside a low center of gravity and four selectable ride modes.
- Verge’s current maximum-range and rapid-charging figures are company claims, not independently verified results in the sources cited here.
- Price, connector and delivery estimates vary with configuration, model revision, date and region; check the exact order details.
