Jonny Davies, the stunt rider known as JD Stunts, was reported to have reached 159.52 mph while being dragged behind a motorcycle at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire, England, on August 18, 2024. Kawasaki’s later account calls it a Guinness World Record; a contemporaneous report said Guinness confirmation was still pending.

How fast was Jonny Davies dragged behind the motorcycle?

Kawasaki’s account reports a top speed of 159.52 mph. In a quoted statement, Davies gave the more precise figure as 159.522 mph (256.725 km/h). These are reported figures from the event, not independently verified measurements presented here.

The run took place on a runway at Elvington Airfield. Davies began behind the motorcycle and held on as it accelerated. Kawasaki’s account describes two official attempts, with the second reaching the reported record speed. New Atlas reported that his first attempt reached 154.677 mph (248.928 km/h).

What motorcycle did he use, and how was it adapted?

Davies used a Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX. Kawasaki’s account says the model was chosen for its acceleration and stability and describes the bike as otherwise stock apart from a rear-mounted throttle adaptation. New Atlas separately reported a BG Motorsport steering damper and R&G crash-protection modifications, so the available accounts do not establish one fully reconciled parts list.

He also wore specially made titanium skis beneath his racing boots. New Atlas reported that the skis sparked against the runway and quoted Davies saying his left foot began to feel airborne.

The record setup was customized for this attempt; the accounts do not describe the rear controls, grab rail, or skis as standard equipment or establish them as retail accessories.

What record did the attempt surpass?

New Atlas attributed the previous mark to Gary Rothwell, who reached 156.3 mph (251.54 km/h) in 1999. On the figures reported by Kawasaki and New Atlas, Davies’s second run was about 3.2 mph faster than that mark.

Run or record Reported speed Source and context
Gary Rothwell’s prior mark, 1999 156.3 mph (251.54 km/h) New Atlas’s August 21, 2024 report
Davies’s first attempt, 2024 154.677 mph (248.928 km/h) New Atlas’s August 21, 2024 report
Davies’s second attempt, 2024 159.52 mph; Davies was quoted as saying 159.522 mph (256.725 km/h) Kawasaki’s later account and New Atlas’s August 21, 2024 report

Was it officially confirmed as a Guinness World Record?

The record’s status should be attributed carefully. New Atlas reported on August 21, 2024, that Guinness confirmation was still pending. Kawasaki’s later account calls Davies a Guinness World Record holder. No Guinness record listing is available in the cited reporting here, so Kawasaki’s statement is the basis for the later confirmation claim—not a separate Guinness primary-source verification.

What Davies said after the run

Kawasaki quoted Davies describing his reaction to the record as “overwhelmed.” New Atlas reported a more immediate thought from the run: Davies said his left foot felt as if it were going airborne, and he hoped the speed had broken the record because he did not want to repeat the attempt.
