Was O.J. Simpson’s Ford Bronco Really Being Sold for $750,000?

The $750,000 figure was the last reported offer for the chase Bronco, while its owners hoped for at least $1.5 million. The vehicle was Cowlings’s, not Simpson’s.

The $750,000 figure was reported as the last offer for the Bronco—not as a completed sale. In April 2024, the owners said they hoped to get at least $1.5 million. The reports available here do not establish whether the vehicle has since sold or where it is currently displayed.

What did the $750,000 figure mean?

The Guardian reported on April 16, 2024 that $750,000 was the last offer the owners had received. They hoped to sell for at least $1.5 million. An offer and an asking goal do not prove that a sale took place, and the reporting cited here does not confirm a later transaction.

Figure What it represents
$750,000 The last offer reported by the Guardian in April 2024; not a confirmed sale price.
At least $1.5 million The owners’ stated target in the same report; not a confirmed sale price.
$75,000 The price HISTORY and TIME reported that Michael Gilbert and co-buyers paid Cowlings for the Bronco.

The amounts describe different points in the car’s history and different kinds of figures. They should not be treated as comparable appraisals of an ordinary 1993 Bronco: the vehicle’s significance comes from its provenance, and the cited reports do not establish an independent valuation.

Which Bronco was in the chase?

The vehicle followed by police on June 17, 1994, was a white 1993 Ford Bronco XLT owned and driven by Al “A.C.” Cowlings. O.J. Simpson was a passenger. Simpson had a separate, similar Bronco, which the Associated Press reported was seized as evidence after blood was found inside. The chase vehicle was Cowlings’s—not Simpson’s.

The pursuit stretched about 60 miles (96 kilometers), according to the Associated Press. AP reported that more than 90 million Americans watched the television coverage. The Guardian, citing CBS Sports, put the audience at about 95 million. These are separately attributed estimates, not a single exact count.

How did the chase Bronco change hands?

  1. Cowlings owned the vehicle. He was at the wheel during the pursuit.
  2. A proposed sale to collector Michael Kronick fell through. HISTORY reports that Cowlings and his attorney later sold the Bronco for $75,000 to a group that included Simpson’s former agent Michael Gilbert. TIME also reported Gilbert’s purchase from Cowlings for $75,000.
  3. The car was associated with museum and television appearances. TIME reported in August 2017 that the Bronco had been stored apart from a Las Vegas casino display and was set to appear on Pawn Stars.
  4. It was later displayed at Alcatraz East Crime Museum. HISTORY’s account, updated June 17, 2026, says Gilbert reached an arrangement with the Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, museum and that the car was on display there.
  5. Owners discussed a possible sale in 2024. The Guardian reported that Gilbert and two friends of Cowlings owned the Bronco, had received a last offer of $750,000, and hoped for at least $1.5 million.

HISTORY also relayed a statement from the museum website saying that, at the time, no one was actively pursuing a sale. Because that statement may no longer be current, it does not establish the Bronco’s present sale status.

Where is the Bronco now?

HISTORY’s account, updated June 17, 2026, places the vehicle on display at Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Pigeon Forge. However, the reports cited here do not establish whether it remains there as of October 4, 2026, whether it is currently being offered for sale, or whether ownership has changed. Treat both display and sale status as unresolved rather than assuming the 2024 offer became a sale.

Why does this particular Ford Bronco matter?

The vehicle is remembered because it became the focal point of an unusually visible moment in American television and criminal-justice history. Its story also sits within the Bronco’s broader shift from a rugged four-wheel-drive vehicle toward the increasingly family-oriented SUV market. AP quoted auto historian Todd Zuercher, author of Ford Bronco: A History of Ford’s Legendary 4×4, saying, “Most of the soccer moms of the 1990s weren’t driving Ford Broncos.” That observation concerns the model’s cultural context; it does not establish a market value for this individual vehicle.
