Volkswagen launched the ID.UNYX in China on 17 July 2024, with an official suggested starting price of 209,900 yuan. That is 900 yuan above the 209,000-yuan figure in the original headline; Volkswagen’s launch announcement does not validate the headline’s $28,790 conversion as a current exchange-rate equivalent. The ID.UNYX is the first model in Volkswagen’s China-focused ID.UNYX sub-brand, and its announced range of up to 621 km is based on China’s CLTC test cycle.
What is the Volkswagen ID.UNYX?
Volkswagen introduced the ID.UNYX as its first all-electric coupe SUV under the ID.UNYX sub-brand, which the company described as exclusive to China. Volkswagen framed the launch as part of its “In China, for China” strategy. Its Brand China CEO, Stefan Mecha, called it “an avant-garde product” expanding Volkswagen’s electric ID. range in China. Volkswagen’s launch release is dated 17 July 2024.
The vehicle was developed at Volkswagen’s innovation and development center in Hefei and is manufactured there, according to Volkswagen. The company also announced a retail concept of 40 exclusive stores across 20 cities. That was a launch plan; it does not establish how many stores are open now.
How much did the ID.UNYX cost at launch?
Volkswagen China announced a suggested starting price of 209,900 yuan on 17 July 2024. The 209,000-yuan amount in the original headline is not the manufacturer’s stated price. The headline’s $28,790 figure is likewise not a current currency conversion verified by Volkswagen. The launch price is historical, not confirmation of current pricing or availability. What range and specifications did Volkswagen announce?
Volkswagen’s English-language launch release listed specifications for two powertrain configurations. These are manufacturer-announced figures, not independent test results.

The 621 km figure is Volkswagen’s claim under China’s CLTC test cycle. It should not be treated as a real-world driving distance or compared directly with a figure measured under a different test cycle without accounting for the methods used. What software and cabin technology did Volkswagen describe?
Volkswagen China described the ID.UNYX as using UNYX.OS, with large-language-model integration and a personalisable, AI-based 3D avatar built into the vehicle’s human-machine interface. These are features described in the company’s launch announcement, not an independent assessment of how the system performs. The launch material does not establish availability in other markets, so the model should not be described as broadly available worldwide.
