New Atlas describes it as a generative-AI-inspired take on a time machine, built around a simple metal frame, steering, suspension and a small electric drivetrain. The footage shows a striking one-off creation—not proof that it is registered or approved for public-road use.
Who built the wooden vehicle?
New Atlas identified the builder as Truong Van Dao, creator of the ND Woodworking Art YouTube channel. In a report published June 19, 2024, the publication placed the vehicle among Dao’s series of wooden vehicle projects, which had included small car replicas and steerable electric miniatures.
The embedded video is titled “I Built A Car For My Child From AI’s Imagination.” New Atlas says generative AI inspired the design, which was intended to represent a time machine. The vehicle’s elaborate appearance is therefore a creative interpretation, not a conventional car design or a production model.
How is it built and what moves?
According to New Atlas, Dao first made a simple metal frame with steering and suspension and added a small electric drivetrain, then built out the wooden bodywork. The report does not name the drivetrain components or give their output.
#1 Best Overall
- Wooden play set with a two-level tractor trailer that picks up and delivers four emergency vehicles
- Includes vehicle carrier, helicopter, fire engine, police car, and ambulance
- Upper level extends to make truck nearly 2 feet long and to allow vehicles to roll off and on
- Sturdy, high quality wooden construction and bright, bold colors
- Wooden exterior: The report describes chunky front wheels, mechanical-looking hubs, large curled forms at the rear and a curved, slatted roof.
- Lighting: Lights are incorporated into the sculptural body.
- Moving front mechanisms: Cog-driven levers create a wobbling motion. New Atlas describes these mechanisms as separate from the drivetrain that propels the vehicle.
That distinction matters: the visible gears and levers add motion and spectacle, but the report does not say they drive the vehicle.
What does the street video show?
New Atlas describes the vehicle traveling slowly on streets in Vietnam. The report also says the driver looks forward through a small slot. Those are descriptions of the footage, not results from a safety or performance test.
