Why is the Bahrain Grand Prix being held in Malaysia?
The 2–4 October 2026 event is officially the Bahrain Grand Prix, hosted at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Formula 1 and the FIA announced the arrangement in July, saying it would preserve the Bahrain Grand Prix, which otherwise would not have taken place. Their announcement said the plan was subject to final agreements and official sign-off; it should not be described as a Malaysian Grand Prix. Formula 1’s announcement quotes Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa: “I am proud to join Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia in announcing that Bahrain will host the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, from 2 to 4 October 2026.”
