Veo announced the Apollo Cargo on May 28, 2025, positioning it as North America’s first free-floating shared cargo e-bike. The company said it planned to launch the bike in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio, that summer. Its cargo setup is designed to carry groceries and other gear without requiring a car for every short trip, but current city listings do not confirm that Apollo Cargo is operating in either market today.
What is the Apollo Cargo?
The Apollo Cargo is a shared fleet e-bike developed by Veo from its Apollo platform. It is intended for riders using Veo’s mobility service, rather than presented in the launch materials as a consumer bicycle for individual purchase. Veo describes a front basket, a rear cargo area, and compatibility with standard pannier bags. The company says the bike can carry up to 100 pounds; this is a manufacturer-stated capacity, not an independently verified test result. Veo’s product announcement
Veo says Apollo Cargo includes throttle assist, a phone holder, and an illuminated display showing battery status, speed mode, and geofencing information. The bike also has on-board audio intended to provide guidance about local rules. These features are described by the manufacturer; the launch materials do not provide independent evaluations of them.
How the cargo setup works
New Atlas describes a rear cage around the pillion seat, a front basket, and bungee cords for securing items. It also reports that riders may be able to use rear panniers or an additional saddle. For someone considering a shared ride, the practical question is whether a particular load fits securely and stays within the stated capacity. The sources do not establish that riders can attach their own accessories to a Veo fleet bike, so pannier compatibility should not be taken as permission to modify or equip a shared vehicle.
Motor, speed, and range information
New Atlas reports a 750-watt hub motor, throttle, and pedal assist up to 15.5 mph (25 km/h). These are figures reported by that publication in its June 8, 2025 coverage. Veo’s own announcement focuses on the carrying setup and does not provide a Cargo-specific range figure.

New Atlas says the original Apollo battery was rated for up to 45 miles (72 km) per charge, but that figure belongs to the original Apollo, not the Cargo variant. It should not be used to estimate Apollo Cargo range: no Cargo-specific range data was shared in the report.
Where was it supposed to launch?

Veo’s current catalog lists Apollo Cargo, and its service-location page lists both cities. However, the location page does not identify which Veo vehicle models operate in each market, so those listings do not verify current Apollo Cargo availability. Why Veo says it developed a cargo model
Veo frames the product around “cargo anxiety”—the everyday uncertainty of whether groceries or gear will fit in a backpack or require a car. In its launch announcement, the company said 58% of respondents in its latest rider survey would ride more often if they could carry groceries or gear. The announcement does not state the survey’s sample size or methodology, so the result should be read as a company-reported survey finding, not a measure of all riders.

Veo also set a goal for 50% of its fleet to be cargo-capable by 2030. That is a company target, not a verified deployment result. The announcement does not establish how quickly the target will be reached or which markets would receive cargo-capable vehicles.

A shared cargo e-bike could offer a way to carry more than a conventional shared bike while avoiding the commitment of owning a cargo bike. Whether it is useful depends on local availability, the specific load, and the trip. The launch sources do not state an Apollo Cargo trip tariff, a current price comparison with private cargo bikes, or an independently measured carrying capacity or range. Riders should therefore verify availability and ride terms in their market rather than assume the model is present or priced like another Veo vehicle.
