What is the Velozzi Hypercar supposed to be made of?
Velozzi describes the body as pre-impregnated carbon fiber and spider silk. Its specifications page says the monocoque chassis will use carbon fiber and spider silk over a honeycomb core. The company also lists a naturally aspirated V-12. These are Velozzi’s proposed design details, not confirmation of a completed vehicle or independently examined materials. Velozzi’s home page and its specifications page present the concept; the specifications page cautions that its target specifications may be revised.
What performance does Velozzi claim?
Velozzi’s undated official specifications, viewed October 8, 2026, list the following targets. They are company-published figures, not independently verified test results.

Velozzi also describes a partnership with Spidey Tek and a roadmap involving plant-based protein compounds. That signals an intended materials approach; it does not demonstrate that a finished composite or car has met the targets.

What might spider silk add to carbon fiber?
Velozzi’s stated rationale is that combining spider silk with carbon fiber could preserve the latter’s strength and stiffness while improving fracture toughness. In a January 2, 2024 Autoweek report, Mark Vaughn attributed this claim to Roberto Velozzi: “Carbon-fiber composites maintain their inherent strength and stiffness when blended with spider silk yet gain improved fracture toughness.” That is a claim about the combination, not a result from an independent test of the Hypercar’s body.
The sources do not provide a directly comparable, independently measured dataset for the proposed Velozzi composite. They therefore do not establish that it is stronger, lighter, tougher or otherwise superior to carbon fiber alone. A meaningful comparison would need to specify the material formulation and manufacturing process, then measure properties such as tensile strength, elasticity, fracture toughness and mass under comparable conditions.

How can spider silk be made without spiders?
Spider-silk research can produce silk proteins using other organisms rather than harvesting fibers from spiders. Utah State University describes Randy Lewis’s research into spider-silk proteins produced in bacteria, goats, alfalfa and silkworms, and discusses possible forms including fibers, films, glues, coatings and gels. The university states the research goal as creating materials tailored for strength and elasticity for uses including ligament and tendon repair, technical clothing, parachutes and coatings for medical implants. This is research context, not evidence that Velozzi’s composite has those properties.
A Utah State University research poster on synthetic spider-silk protein in alfalfa discusses extraction experiments and potential production estimates, including 218 kg per acre and a 1–2% yield range. Those are experimental poster estimates, not demonstrated commercial output; the poster says more work was needed to establish alfalfa expression yield and scale production.

Has the Velozzi Hypercar been built?
Autoweek reported on January 2, 2024 that no prototype existed at that time and quoted Velozzi as saying a working, driving car was at least four to five years away. That report is a dated account, not a current status update. The sources available here do not verify whether the Hypercar has since reached prototype, testing or production as of October 8, 2026.
The same 2024 report mentioned an expected $3 million price and a three-to-four-year delivery window as plans at the time. They are not verified current pricing or availability, so they should not be treated as an offer or delivery commitment.
