That is the documented basis for calling its underpinnings familiar—not evidence that it shares parts with a Golf GTI or a specific Hyundai. Vanwall’s current page lists three tailored versions, but does not provide usable performance figures or a current price.
What is the Vanwall Vandervell?
Vanwall describes the Vandervell as a tailor-made electric road car. Its current product page lists the VANDERVELL H-GT, VANDERVELL N-GT and N-GT Thin Wall Special, and says all three use the E-GMP EV platform and all-carbon-fiber bodywork. The company says each car is tailored to customer requests. These are manufacturer claims, not independently verified specifications. Vanwall’s current Vandervell page does not identify a specific donor vehicle or detail which components, if any, the car shares with another model.
The phrase “familiar bones” therefore needs a narrow reading: Vanwall names E-GMP as the platform. The available material does not establish a direct relationship to the Golf GTI, nor does it identify a particular Hyundai model as the Vandervell’s donor.
What does Vanwall say it shares—and what remains unclear?
E-GMP platform and carbon body
Vanwall says the current road-car versions are based on E-GMP and have carbon-fiber bodywork. The company’s earlier explanation, attributed to Dr. Colin Kolles, VANWALL GmbH Managing Director, was: “We have therefore decided to build a car with a full carbon fiber body.” That is Vanwall’s stated rationale; it is not a measured finding about weight, efficiency or range. Vanwall’s “Renaissance of a Legend” page also discusses the platform and versions.

No documented Golf GTI component link
The Golf GTI is useful as a familiar hot-hatch reference point, but the cited material does not show shared architecture or components. Volkswagen’s U.S. model-year 2026 page describes the GTI as a hot hatch and lists its own specifications; it does not connect the car to Vanwall or E-GMP. Volkswagen of America’s 2026 Golf GTI page gives the relevant U.S. figures.
How much does the Vandervell cost?
Vanwall’s 16 January 2023 announcement priced the earlier Vandervell S from €128,000 excluding VAT. That is a historical starting price for the S announcement, not a current quote for the H-GT, N-GT or Thin Wall Special. The release also said the S Plus would be a 500-car limited series and that deliveries were expected to begin in the third quarter of 2023. Those were plans announced at the time; they do not establish present-day production, deliveries or availability. Vanwall’s original S announcement contains those terms.

For a rough sense of how different the comparison markets are, Volkswagen of America lists the U.S. model-year 2026 Golf GTI at a starting MSRP of $34,590. That U.S. price and the 2023 euro price are not directly comparable: they refer to different dates, markets, tax treatment and vehicle versions.
What were the Vandervell S and S Plus specifications?
The figures below are Vanwall’s published claims in its January 2023 announcement, not independent test results. They apply to the older S and S Plus versions, not automatically to the three versions on Vanwall’s current product page.

| Version in 2023 announcement | Drive | Power | Range claim | Maximum speed | 0–100 km/h |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vandervell S | 4WD | 320 hp | About 450 km combined | 185 km/h | 4.9 s |
| Vandervell S Plus | 4WD | 580 hp | About 420 km | 265 km/h | 3.4 s |
The announcement does not establish that either version’s figures were independently verified. Vanwall’s current page renders zero values for power, acceleration, speed and drivetrain fields; those display values are not usable specifications and should not be substituted for confirmed current figures.

The cars occupy very different contexts: Vanwall presents a bespoke electric car with carbon bodywork, while Volkswagen positions the Golf GTI as a hot hatch. Volkswagen of America lists 241 hp and 273 lb-ft for its U.S. 2026 GTI, with a $34,590 starting MSRP. Those are U.S. model-year figures and can change; they do not create a like-for-like price or platform comparison with the Vandervell.

The Golf’s scale also provides context for the name’s reach rather than its engineering. Volkswagen Group reported that more than 37 million Golfs had been sold across eight generations in its 2024 50th-anniversary account. That historical total says nothing about shared parts with the Vandervell. Volkswagen Group’s Golf 50th-anniversary article reports the figure.
