Ferrari did not build a production 612 Scaglietti shooting brake. The standard 612 was a 2+2 coupe; Dutch firm Vandenbrink Design reworked one into an estate-style car with a hatch. That makes it an unusually practical-looking Ferrari, but no cited source gives the conversion a measured luggage capacity or establishes it as the most practical Ferrari ever.
Who built the Ferrari 612 shooting brake?
Vandenbrink Design, a Dutch coachbuilder, created the shooting-brake conversion from a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. Top Gear reported that the design originated in 2008 and, in 2019, described the revealed car as the first of a very limited series. That wording records the project’s intent at the time; it does not establish how many conversions were ultimately completed or whether further examples remain available. Top Gear’s 2019 coverage introduced the design and its limited-series framing.
A 2020 profile by Sports Car Market describes a completed conversion as a one-off and reports that the work took 15 months and more than 2,500 hours. Taken together, the accounts support calling the known finished car a documented one-off, while leaving the project’s final production total unresolved. Sports Car Market’s profile details the conversion.
What changed from the standard 612?
The production 612 Scaglietti was a front-mid-engined 2+2 grand touring coupe, not a wagon. Top Gear reported the donor car’s 5.7-litre V12 at 533bhp, with a six-speed manual or an F1 paddle-shift transmission offered. Those are figures for the 612 model, not measurements or specifications unique to Vandenbrink’s bodywork. Top Gear Philippines’ 2019 account gives the reported engine and transmission details. Evo’s retrospective places the 612 within Ferrari’s V12 2+2 lineage. Evo’s 612 overview covers its model context.

Vandenbrink’s central change was the rear body: the coupe became an estate-style shooting brake with a hatch, providing a more useful-looking cargo opening than the standard coupe’s trunk. The sources establish the body-style conversion, but do not report a measured cargo volume, payload, or other practical-use test for the converted car.
Is the Ferrari FF the factory shooting-brake version?
The FF—not a factory 612 shooting brake—was Ferrari’s later shooting-brake model in the range. It followed the 612 and combined the body style with a factory four-wheel-drive package, while the 612 used a rear-wheel-drive GT layout. This is the meaningful distinction: Vandenbrink coachbuilt a 612 into an estate-style car; Ferrari offered the FF as a factory model.

Evo reported 450 litres of luggage capacity for the FF, increasing to 800 litres with its rear seats folded. Those figures apply to the FF only; they cannot be used as the capacity of Vandenbrink’s 612 conversion. Evo’s FF retrospective gives the luggage figures and successor context.

The hatch and extended estate-style rear suggest easier access to luggage and more versatile cargo space than in the original 612 coupe. But without a published luggage-volume measurement or a direct cargo comparison, it is not possible to quantify how much more it carries—or to rank it against every other Ferrari as “the most practical.” The phrase works as playful description of the unusual conversion, not as a measured verdict.
