That is a target—not a promise that 100,000 robotaxis will be operating by a particular date. A later plan names Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area as the first markets in the first half of 2027, with expansion to 28 cities across four continents by 2028.
What Uber and NVIDIA announced
On October 28, 2025, Uber and NVIDIA announced a partnership to scale Uber’s global autonomous fleet starting in 2027, targeting 100,000 vehicles over time. NVIDIA described the broader partnership as spanning robotaxis and autonomous delivery fleets. The announcement did not set a date for reaching 100,000 vehicles. Uber’s announcement and NVIDIA’s announcement establish the companies’ plans, not completed deployments.

On March 16, 2026, the companies added a staged service rollout: start in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area during the first half of 2027, then scale to 28 cities globally by 2028. Uber describes the intended operations as spanning North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. The 28-city plan does not itself guarantee the 100,000-vehicle target or establish that the target will be reached by 2028. Uber’s March 2026 rollout announcement.

There is no announced completion date for a 100,000-vehicle fleet. The October 2025 commitment is to begin scaling in 2027 and work toward that number over time. The March 2026 announcement provides nearer-term geography and timing for the planned service—two initial markets in the first half of 2027 and 28 cities by 2028—but does not say that 100,000 vehicles will be deployed by then.

Which cities get Uber robotaxis first?
The named first markets are Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, with service planned to begin in the first half of 2027. Uber and NVIDIA say they intend to expand to 28 cities worldwide by 2028, but the March announcement does not name all 28 locations. These are future plans, not confirmation that service is already available in those markets.

- Local data collection: vehicles gather driving data so the system can be trained for that city’s conditions.
- Operator-led launch: service begins with an operator-led phase.
- Fully driverless Level 4 operations: the planned progression is to driverless service once the local rollout reaches that stage.
The announcement presents this as an intended sequence. It does not provide city-by-city transition dates or establish that every market will move through the stages on the same schedule.
What Uber and NVIDIA contribute
Uber’s role: marketplace and fleet operations
Uber says it will integrate vehicles into its marketplace and operations platform. Its announced fleet responsibilities include remote assistance, charging, cleaning, maintenance, and customer support. Uber also said it planned to collect more than 3 million hours of robotaxi-specific driving data for Level 4 model training and validation. That figure is a company-stated collection target, not a reported completed total. Uber’s October 2025 announcement.

NVIDIA’s role: vehicle computing and autonomy tools
The October 2025 announcement identifies NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 as a modular compute and sensor architecture, and NVIDIA DRIVE AV as its full-stack Level 4 software. NVIDIA also said it would provide GPUs, Cosmos, and tools for data curation, search, simulation, and ongoing improvement of autonomy systems. These are descriptions of the planned technology partnership, not independent verification of system performance.
NVIDIA’s later product material describes DRIVE Hyperion as bringing together in-vehicle DRIVE AGX compute, the Halos safety system and software foundation, compatible sensors, and DRIVE AV. In September 2026, NVIDIA began using the name NVIDIA Hyperion in its newsroom material; “DRIVE Hyperion” remains the name used in the original 2025 and 2026 announcements. NVIDIA also describes Alpamayo as an open portfolio of AI models, simulation frameworks, and datasets for autonomous-vehicle development. Vehicle supply and the wider partner group
Uber’s October 2025 announcement said Stellantis would be among the first automakers to deliver at least 5,000 NVIDIA-powered Level 4 vehicles for Uber robotaxi operations in the United States and internationally. This is an announced supply plan, not confirmation that those vehicles have been delivered. The same announcement names Lucid and Mercedes-Benz among vehicle collaborators, alongside a wider Level 4 ecosystem that includes Aurora, Avride, May Mobility, Momenta, Motional, Nuro, Pony.ai, Waabi, Wayve, and WeRide. Those names cover activity across passenger mobility, trucking, and delivery; they should not be read as a list of vehicle suppliers for the 28-city Uber rollout.
Are 100,000 robotaxis already on the road?
No evidence in the cited announcements establishes that the 100,000-vehicle target has been delivered or that the planned 28-city service is operating. A September 23, 2026 Axios report said Uber AV Labs was deploying up to 500 specially equipped Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles to collect data, with agreements to provide data to NVIDIA and Wayve. That reported data-collection fleet is not a count of commercial robotaxis and does not demonstrate completion of the larger target.
A separate Munich program
In June 2026, Uber and Autobrains announced a Munich robotaxi program that would use Uber’s ride-hailing platform, Autobrains’ autonomous-driving technology, and NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion. The release said deployment was pending regulatory approval and did not identify the automaker; NVIDIA said more details on the automaker were expected later in 2026. This Munich program is distinct from the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area rollout leading to the 28-city plan. Uber’s Munich announcement and NVIDIA’s announcement.
