U-Boat Worx presented its three-person Super Sub at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show, promoting it as a fast, maneuverable private submersible. The company’s September 2023 announcement claimed speeds of up to 10 knots and 100 kW of thrust; later manufacturer updates put those figures in a different context, including a 9-knot top speed reported after sea trials in March 2026.
What appeared at Monaco
The Super Sub was displayed at the Monaco Yacht Show, held September 27–30, 2023. U-Boat Worx announced the unveiling on September 21 and said the craft would be shown at DS101. The company described a three-person submersible built for private underwater exploration, with its speed and ability to maneuver as central features. U-Boat Worx’s September 21, 2023 announcement is the primary source for the event and its performance claims.
New Atlas’s October 3, 2023 report described a 6.5 m (21.3 ft) electric craft with hydrofoils, a panoramic acrylic cabin, a maximum depth of 300 m and an eight-hour endurance. Its reported starting price was €5.2 million at the time; that is a historical 2023 figure, not a verified current price. New Atlas’s 2023 coverage framed the vessel as a fast personal craft rather than a research submarine.
How fast is the Super Sub?
The answer depends on which dated manufacturer statement you mean. In September 2023, U-Boat Worx advertised a maximum speed of up to 10 knots alongside 100 kW of thrust. In a March 20, 2026 update, after reporting completion of sea trials off Curaçao, the company gave a top speed of 9 knots and up to 10 nautical miles of range. Its current product page, accessed October 8, 2026, still lists a maximum speed of 10 knots. These are figures from distinct company announcements and product materials, not a single independently verified speed record.

The different numbers should not be collapsed into a claim that the craft has one settled, independently measured maximum speed. The 2023 figure was an announcement claim, the 2026 figure was a post-trial company report, and the live product page continues to state 10 knots. The available sources do not establish an independently verified “world’s fastest” ranking.
What makes it unusually agile?
U-Boat Worx’s 2023 announcement said the Super Sub could climb and descend at inclines of up to 45 degrees and make rapid banking turns. Those are manufacturer descriptions of its intended maneuverability, not independently documented performance testing. The company’s November 2022 development announcement had described climbs and dives at up to 30 degrees, while saying design work with Dutch maritime research institute MARIN raised the projected top speed from an initial estimate of 8 knots to as much as 10 knots. What the 2026 update adds—and does not confirm
In its March 20, 2026 update, U-Boat Worx said it had completed the Super Sub’s sea-trial program off Curaçao. Alongside the 9-knot top speed and range up to 10 nautical miles, it reported 100 kW of horizontal thrust and an operational depth of 300 m. The company said delivery to the first client was expected within the coming weeks. That announcement does not, on its own, confirm when or whether the handover was completed. Why the Super Sub drew attention
At Monaco, the draw was the combination of a compact, three-person passenger cabin and a performance pitch more often associated with nimble craft than with conventional deep-diving submersibles. U-Boat Worx Marketing Manager Roy Heijdra called it “the pinnacle of underwater luxury and performance” in the company’s September 2023 announcement. That line captures the manufacturer’s positioning, rather than an independent assessment.
