Two men died and a third survived after a Nissan Patrol went over a steep cliff on private property near White Cliffs Road, between Horrocks Beach and Port Gregory in Western Australia’s Mid West region. PerthNow reported the incident on 5 February 2024. The report did not establish what caused the vehicle to leave the road or track.
What happened near Horrocks Beach?
PerthNow reported that three men, all believed to be 22-year-old Mid West residents, left a campsite around midnight to go four-wheel driving in a Nissan Patrol. They were among a group of six people camping at nearby Little Bay.
The vehicle went over a steep cliff on private property near White Cliffs Road. PerthNow estimated that it came to rest 20 to 30 metres below. The report described the crash as occurring early Sunday morning but did not give an exact time.
What happened to the occupants?
Two men died. Police and fire crews recovered their bodies on Sunday morning, according to PerthNow.

The third man reportedly regained consciousness, climbed up the cliff to the road and was later found wandering on a road. A member of the camping group had raised the alarm after the trio did not return.
He was taken to Geraldton Health Campus and then airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital. PerthNow described him as being in stable condition at the time of its 5 February 2024 report; that is not a current medical update.

What is known about the cause?
PerthNow’s report does not say why the Nissan Patrol went over the cliff or provide final police findings. It identifies the location as private property near White Cliffs Road, but does not establish whether the vehicle left a road or track because of a particular hazard, driver action or mechanical problem. No cause should be inferred from the reported outcome.
What officials said
Western Australian Premier Roger Cook expressed sympathy for the families and friends of the two men. He also said the incident was a reminder of the importance of safety in remote parts of Western Australia. His comments were quoted in PerthNow’s 5 February 2024 report.
