The West Australian reported that two women in the car died at the scene and three men in the ute were seriously injured. In its initial report, one man was described as fighting for his life at Royal Perth Hospital, while the other two were stable at Bunbury Hospital.

7NEWS reported that one injured person was flown to Royal Perth Hospital in critical condition and two were taken to Bunbury Hospital by St John Ambulance. These were reports from the day of the collision. The reviewed coverage does not establish the injured people’s eventual outcomes or give fuller details of their injuries. 7NEWS also said the deceased women’s names had not been released at the time.
Road closure and investigation
Bussell Highway was reported closed in both directions at Ludlow-Hithergreen Road, according to 7NEWS and PerthNow. The reports do not state when the road reopened.

The West Australian said the truck driver escaped serious injury and was helping police with their enquiries. It reported that major-crash detectives were investigating; the reviewed coverage does not establish a cause or final investigation finding.
