Subaru’s announcement describes its extreme power and the film’s locations, but does not confirm that the car rolls onto its roof. The Brataroo is a bespoke Gymkhana machine, not a production BRAT or a road-going Subaru trim.
Did the Brataroo actually end up on its roof?
Subaru’s December 9, 2025 announcement of Gymkhana 2025: Aussie Shred reports dangerous-looking stunts but does not say that the Brataroo rolls over or ends up on its roof. The release alone therefore does not substantiate the headline’s roof claim. It is safest to treat that detail as unconfirmed rather than state a rollover as fact.
The film itself is the relevant evidence for what happens on screen. Subaru and Hoonigan premiered it on December 9, 2025; Subaru calls it Pastrana’s third Gymkhana film. Subaru’s release identifies the production and describes the car, but its written account does not establish a roof landing.
What Subaru is Pastrana driving?
A BRAT-inspired one-off, not a production model
The featured car is the Brataroo 9500 Turbo. Subaru describes it as a purpose-built reimagining of the 1978 Subaru BRAT, crafted by Subaru of America and technical partner Vermont SportsCar for Gymkhana. The BRAT reference is its design inspiration; the Brataroo is not a factory BRAT variant or a retail road car.

Published engine figures
Subaru lists a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer engine producing 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, with the engine revving beyond 9,500 rpm. Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. Supercars gives a different set of output figures—500 kW and 922 Nm—in its December 2025 coverage. The available accounts do not explain the difference, so the figures should remain attributed to their respective publishers rather than treated as a reconciled specification.
Where does Aussie Shred take the car?
Subaru says the film travels through the Australian Outback, Sydney Harbour and Mount Panorama at Bathurst, among other locations. Pastrana’s comments in the release describe a pier stunt, a jump across a canyon gap and skimming across a lake. Those are his descriptions of the film’s stunts, not independently measured performance claims.

Why call it the “world’s wildest Subaru”?
That phrase is a colorful description, not a formal Subaru model designation or a verified ranking. Pastrana calls the Brataroo “hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built,” an attributed opinion in Subaru’s release. The documented basis for its extreme reputation is its bespoke Gymkhana purpose, the published engine figures and the high-risk stunt setting—not evidence that it is a production car or that it definitively ranks above every other Subaru.
