The product behind the original headline appears to be a Volam portable display featured in a December 30, 2025 deal article. That coverage listed a promotional price of $122, but that price is historical and should not be treated as current. The available information also does not independently verify the exact model number, resolution, brightness, wireless capabilities, audio quality, warranty, or long-term reliability.

What you are actually buying
A portable Android Auto screen is an external smart display that sits on top of—or attaches to—the dashboard. It normally receives power from the car’s 12-volt accessory socket or a USB power adapter, connects to your phone, and sends sound to the vehicle through AUX, Bluetooth, FM transmission, or its own speaker.
That means the factory radio remains in place. The unit does not automatically gain control of the car’s existing amplifier, steering-wheel buttons, factory USB ports, or built-in backup camera.

The original promotion described a setup involving dashboard mounting, connection to a DC outlet, and audio through AUX, Bluetooth, FM, or the built-in speaker. Those are seller or promotional claims rather than independent test results. Read the original deal coverage.

Some products called “Android car stereos” are different again: they run Android locally and may include storage, cellular connectivity, or onboard apps. The word “Android” in a product name does not by itself prove that the unit supports certified Android Auto.

Android Auto projects a restricted, driver-focused selection of compatible phone functions onto the display. Supported features include:

Wired and wireless compatibility
Do not assume that a portable screen supports every connection mode simply because its listing says “Android Auto.” Confirm whether the exact model supports wired Android Auto, wireless Android Auto, or both.
Wired Android Auto
Google’s listed requirements include an Android phone running Android 9 or later, a compatible car or stereo, an active data plan, and a high-quality USB cable. Wired operation is often the more dependable option and charges the phone, but it introduces another cable and requires the screen to expose a suitable USB connection.
Wireless Android Auto
Google lists Android 11 or later, 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, an active data plan, and compatible hardware for wireless Android Auto. Wireless operation is more convenient for short trips, but it can use more phone battery and may be harder to troubleshoot if Bluetooth pairing succeeds while projection does not.
Android Go devices are not supported according to Google’s requirements. If wireless Android Auto matters to you, verify the phone and display combination before buying rather than relying on a generic product title.

Will it work in your car?
“Works with all cars” should be interpreted narrowly. It may mean that the unit can be mounted and powered in many vehicles—not that it will integrate with every car’s electronics.
Check these points before ordering:
- Phone: Confirm Android Auto or CarPlay support and whether your preferred wired or wireless mode is supported.
- Power: Make sure you have an accessible 12-volt socket or suitable USB power source.
- Audio: Identify whether your factory radio accepts AUX, Bluetooth audio, or neither.
- Dashboard space: Measure the mounting area and check visibility from the normal driving position.
- Safety: Keep the screen and its mount away from airbags, vents, hazard switches, pedals, steering components, and essential sight lines.
- Camera: If you want a backup camera, confirm that the exact bundle includes one and that the display has the required camera input and reverse-trigger wiring.
- Factory systems: Complex amplifiers, factory cameras, and integrated controls may require additional interfaces—or may not work with the portable unit.
How to install it safely
- Choose the position. Place the display where it is visible without blocking the road, an airbag, a vent, a switch, or an instrument panel. Avoid locations where it could become a projectile in a crash.
- Test before securing the mount. Check daylight glare, reflections, reach, vibration, and visibility with your normal seating position. Polarized sunglasses can make some displays harder to see.
- Connect power. Use the supplied 12-volt adapter or a compatible USB source. Route the cable away from pedals, steering mechanisms, sharp edges, and hot surfaces. Secure slack so it cannot fall into the footwell.
- Pair the phone. Follow the display’s instructions. Wired setups require a good-quality data cable; wireless setups commonly use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi during pairing.
- Choose the audio path. Use AUX when available, then reliable Bluetooth audio. Use FM transmission only when those options are unavailable. The built-in speaker is best treated as a fallback for prompts rather than a replacement for the car’s speakers.
- Configure a camera, if applicable. Confirm whether the camera is wired or wireless, whether it needs a reverse-trigger connection, and whether it switches automatically when reverse is selected.
- Test while parked. Check music, map prompts, calls, voice commands, notification behavior, volume control, phone charging, and camera operation before driving.
Pay attention to whether the car’s 12-volt outlet stays powered after the ignition is switched off. If it does, unplug the display or use an appropriate switched power solution to avoid battery drain.
What the 9-inch size does—and does not—tell you
A “9-inch” diagonal measurement says nothing about the details that determine how pleasant the screen is to use. Before purchasing, look for verified information about:

- Anti-glare treatment and viewing angles
- Touch responsiveness
- Aspect ratio and bezel size
- Mount stability and heat tolerance
The available coverage does not provide independently verified brightness, resolution, latency, viewing-angle, or long-term reliability measurements. Avoid treating words such as “powerful,” “HD,” “crystal-clear,” “lag-free,” or “factory-quality” as test results.

Audio is the biggest practical compromise
A large screen does not automatically improve the sound system. The audio route may determine whether the upgrade feels polished or improvised.
- AUX: Usually the cleanest direct connection when the factory radio has an input, although a poor adapter or power arrangement can create ground-loop hum.
- Bluetooth: Convenient where the factory radio accepts Bluetooth media, but pairing may work for calls without working correctly for music or navigation prompts.
- FM transmission: Useful in older cars without AUX or Bluetooth, but vulnerable to interference, crowded frequencies, and volume differences.
- Built-in speaker: Simple and independent of the factory radio, but generally not the preferred solution for music or hands-free calls.
Also test microphone placement, call echo, navigation-prompt volume, music ducking during directions, and whether the factory radio returns to its normal input when the display powers down. The promotional article recommends AUX, Bluetooth, or FM before the built-in speaker, but it does not include independent audio measurements.

Routing a camera cable from the rear of the vehicle to the dashboard can be considerably more involved than installing the display itself.

Portable display or permanent stereo?

Choose a replacement head unit if you want an integrated appearance, cleaner audio, fewer cables, steering-wheel controls, factory-camera support, or better integration with an amplifier. Installation may require a dash kit, wiring harness, antenna adapter, and CAN-bus interface.
Choose a vehicle-specific Android stereo if you want a permanent large screen plus features such as onboard storage, cellular connectivity, or locally running Android apps. You must confirm the vehicle’s year, trim, dash configuration, amplifier, camera, and steering-control compatibility, and accept that firmware and support may be less predictable than with established factory-style systems.

The cheaper portable options are not automatically better value. Return terms, documentation, audio performance, mount stability, compatibility, and support may matter more than the screen price.
Verdict
This 9-inch-class portable Android Auto screen makes sense for an older car owner who wants modern phone projection without dismantling the dashboard. It is a practical way to add navigation, calls, messages, music, and voice control while keeping the original radio intact.
Buy it only after confirming the exact model, current price, Android Auto connection mode, audio options, camera bundle, return policy, and mounting plan. Choose a permanent replacement head unit instead if factory integration, sound quality, steering-wheel controls, or a clean installation are more important than reversibility and low effort.
