TrailPod’s “zero-wood” claim refers to the trailer’s body structure, not every part of its interior: the company says the cabin uses recyclable foam-composite panels, an interior laminate finish and thin exterior aluminum cladding, while its cupboards use Baltic plywood. The South African range includes the Lite, Cricket and Max, with differences in width, equipment and galley layout. Published prices and weights are configuration-dependent, so confirm the exact build and current quote with TrailPod before comparing it with your tow vehicle or budget.
What does “zero-wood” mean on a TrailPod?
TrailPod says its cabin body is made from rigid recyclable foam-composite panels, with a tough laminate finish inside and thin aluminum cladding outside. The company’s FAQ puts the distinction plainly: “No wood or fiberglass is used in our body structure.” That claim is specifically about the body structure; TrailPod also says it uses Baltic plywood for interior cupboards. TrailPod’s FAQ
New Atlas describes the chassis as galvanized steel and the body as foam composite beneath an aluminum skin. It also reports all-terrain tires and steel wheels, with rubber or leaf-spring suspension options on the Lite. Those are reported product details, not independent test findings. How do the Lite, Cricket and Max differ?
TrailPod’s range is offered in three named models. New Atlas reports a 3.5 m total length across the range, but widths and equipment vary by model and configuration. New Atlas

| Model | Reported configuration | What to weigh up |
|---|---|---|
| Lite | Base model. New Atlas reports one entry door, a window with screen and blackout shade, roof vent, mattress, shelf, rechargeable lights and roof rails. A narrow, non-braked Lite is reported as having a tare as low as 420 kg. New Atlas | Ask which width, brake status, suspension, tires and equipment are included in the specific quote. Battery, kitchen box and other equipment may need to be selected separately. |
| Cricket | Reported to use the Lite’s body and frame, adding a second entry door, side-mounted kitchen box, 100-Ah lithium battery, solar charger, cupboards and extra lighting. New Atlas | Compare the added equipment with the higher starting price and the actual tare of the configured trailer. |
| Max | Wider body with a tailgate galley. New Atlas reports a dry weight of 550 kg or more. New Atlas | Consider whether the wider cabin and galley arrangement justify the additional weight, and plan for food refrigeration and cooking equipment separately. |
Width and sleeping space
TrailPod’s FAQ gives two standard inside-width options: 1,150 mm and 1,350 mm. New Atlas describes a narrow body of about 1.2 m and an optional wider body of about 1.4 m for the Lite and Cricket, and a 140–154 cm body on the Max. These figures are not interchangeable: the FAQ specifies inside widths, while New Atlas’s descriptions refer to body dimensions and models. Ask for the exact interior sleeping dimensions and exterior width of the configuration you are considering. TrailPod FAQ New Atlas
What the Max galley does—and does not—include
The Max’s tailgate galley is a counter and storage arrangement, not a complete fitted kitchen. New Atlas reports that it has no built-in cooking, plumbing or refrigeration, and that a fridge or cooler must travel in the tow vehicle. If you plan to use the galley, include separate cooking gear and a portable fridge or cooler in your packing and vehicle-load plans; no particular appliance fitment is established by the available product information. Roof loads: driving limit versus camping limit
TrailPod’s FAQ states different roof-load limits for different conditions: 70 kg while driving and 200 kg while camping. These are not a single interchangeable rating. The FAQ extract does not establish approval for a particular tent, rack or model-specific mounting setup, so confirm the complete proposed setup with TrailPod before carrying a roof load or using a rooftop tent. What do the published weights and prices tell you?
Published figures provide context, not a substitute for a build-specific quotation or the trailer’s paperwork. New Atlas reports the Lite at as low as 420 kg tare in a narrow, non-braked configuration and the Max at 550 kg or more. A configured unit can differ, so obtain its actual tare, brake status and applicable documentation before deciding whether your tow vehicle and local requirements are suitable. New Atlas

TrailPod’s accessible Lite listing gives R177,905, while New Atlas’s February 5, 2026 article lists R189,681 for the Lite, R224,480 for the Cricket and R257,600 for the Max. The reason for the Lite discrepancy is not established; none of these figures should be treated as a guaranteed current price or a final configured offer. TrailPod Lite listing New Atlas
TrailPod’s FAQ says manufacturing takes about two months, but notes that timing can vary with its waiting list and material shortages. Ask for the current lead time when requesting a quote rather than treating that estimate as a delivery promise. TrailPod FAQ

What to confirm before choosing a configuration
Request a written, itemized quote and specification for the exact trailer, not just the model name. Use these points to compare builds:
- Dimensions: inside width, exterior body width and usable sleeping dimensions.
- Weight and towing: configured tare, braked or non-braked status, and the trailer’s paperwork for your vehicle and location.
- Running gear: suspension type, tires and wheels included in the price.
- Equipment: which doors, cupboards, battery, solar charger, lights, kitchen box or galley are standard versus optional.
- Roof loading: the applicable driving and camping limits, plus approval for the specific rack or tent arrangement.
- Price and timing: current price for the selected options, delivery and applicable taxes, and the current production queue.
TrailPod is a South African product range. The cited starting prices are in South African rand; they do not establish availability, shipping, taxes or final cost in another country. The sources also do not establish independent durability, fuel-economy or real-world off-road performance results, so those outcomes should not be inferred from the construction description or product specifications.
