The 815-hp headline refers to a Classic Recreations continuation car unveiled in 2018, not a new Ford-built model. Reports at the time described it as an officially licensed 1969 Boss 429 continuation, but current production, ordering, specifications and pricing are not established.
Who built the 815-hp Boss 429?
Classic Recreations announced an officially licensed Boss 429 continuation and planned to show the first car at the 2018 SEMA show, according to Motor1’s October 30, 2018 report. MotorTrend’s November 1, 2018 coverage described the SEMA debut as a 1969 Boss 429 continuation built around an original 1969 Mustang body.
That makes “back in production” an imprecise shorthand: the reporting concerns a specialist continuation build, not a Ford factory restart. The articles establish what was announced and shown in 2018; they do not establish that the program is still producing cars or accepting orders today.
What did the continuation-car reports say about its engine?
Both reports attributed 815 hp to the continuation, but they did not agree on displacement. Motor1 reported a fuel-injected 8.4-liter V8, while MotorTrend reported a 546-cubic-inch (8.9-liter) V8. These are conflicting period specifications, not a settled figure to combine or choose between.

How does it differ from the original Boss 429?
The original Boss 429 was developed around Ford’s 429-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) V8 for NASCAR homologation. Motor1 reported that the rules then required manufacturers to sell at least 500 engines to customers and gave the original car’s factory rating as 375 hp. Those historical figures should not be confused with the continuation car’s reported 815 hp or its disputed displacement.

Anyone considering a purchase would need to confirm present availability, build choices, price and program terms directly with Classic Recreations.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What did Classic Recreations say about the car?
Motor1 attributed this statement to Classic Recreations owner Jason Engel, quoting an earlier company announcement: “This offers people the chance to own an incredibly rare car that they can actually drive, and with modern chassis and engine tech these cars will actually be faster and easier to drive than the original.” This is the builder’s stated rationale for the continuation, not an independent performance finding.
