The “V-8 Supra” is Toyota’s GR Supra Supercar entry for Australia’s Supercars Championship, announced for the 2026 season. Toyota names the 2UR-GSE all-aluminium, quad-cam V8 as its baseline engine. It is a competition car—not a V8 road-going Supra announced for sale.
What is the Toyota V-8 Supra?
It is Toyota’s GEN3 GR Supra Supercar, developed for championship racing in Australia. Toyota announced the GR Supra entry in 2026 and later revealed the race car, crediting Toyota Australia’s design team and homologation partner Walkinshaw Andretti United with work on the program. Toyota’s entry announcement and reveal announcement describe the project.
Toyota said it committed to Supercars for at least five years when it revealed the GEN3 car. That is the commitment stated in the announcement, not a guarantee that the program will continue beyond that period.
Which V8 does it use?
Toyota identifies the 2UR-GSE all-aluminium, quad-cam V8 as the race car’s baseline engine. The championship organizer also names the 2UR-GSE in its confirmation of Toyota’s 2026 entry.

“Baseline” matters: the cited announcements do not establish the final homologated output or the extent of race-specific engine changes. They also do not provide verified power, torque, lap-time or other performance figures, so a precise performance claim would go beyond what these sources establish.
Is Toyota selling a V8 Supra for the road?
No V8 road-going Supra is announced in the cited Toyota material. The 2UR-GSE detail belongs to the Supercars entry; it should not be transferred to the retail GR Supra just because both cars carry the Supra name. Toyota’s GR Supra brochure is a reference for the road car, not evidence that it shares the race car’s engine or mechanical specification.

The two cars serve different purposes. The Supercars entry is a championship race car developed in a homologation context with Walkinshaw Andretti United; the retail GR Supra is Toyota’s road-going model. The available announcements do not establish the race car’s price, production availability, detailed chassis construction or exact extent of Australian manufacture.

For enthusiasts outside the Australian racing context—or anyone hoping to buy a V8 Supra for the street—the appeal is understandable: Toyota has put a Supra identity around a V8-powered championship program. But “forbidden fruit” describes the gap between a compelling race entry and a consumer car that has not been announced. The verified news is the Australian Supercars program, not a new retail V8 model.
