Toyota’s October 30, 2025, recall covers certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles, plus Subaru Solterra vehicles, whose factory Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) software may cause the rearview-camera image to freeze or fail to appear while reversing. The repair is a software update at a dealer, free of charge. Check the vehicle’s status by VIN rather than relying on its model name alone.
What the Toyota camera recall covers
The recall is NHTSA campaign 25V744, announced by Toyota and reported to NHTSA on October 30, 2025. NHTSA lists 1,024,407 potentially affected vehicles; Toyota described the U.S. total as approximately 1,025,000. Those are differently rounded figures for the same recall, not separate campaigns. NHTSA recall 25V744 and Toyota’s announcement provide the campaign details.
The affected system is the factory Panoramic View Monitor. The notices identify certain 2022–2026 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with that system. The model names below are a family-level summary, not a complete year-by-year eligibility list.

Certain Subaru Solterra vehicles are also identified in NHTSA’s notice. A vehicle’s brand, model, and model year do not by themselves confirm whether it is included; recall status is determined at the individual-vehicle level.

What can happen to the camera
A software error in the PVM’s Parking Assist ECU may cause the rearview-camera image to freeze briefly or not display when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The notice does not say that every affected camera is continuously inoperative. If the image fails, the driver may have reduced visibility behind the vehicle. NHTSA says that can increase crash risk and identifies noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, Rear Visibility. NHTSA’s campaign notice describes the safety issue.
How to check whether your vehicle is included
- Find the vehicle’s 17-digit VIN. Toyota’s recall lookup also accepts a license plate and the state that issued it.
- Open Toyota’s recall lookup and enter the VIN, or choose the license-plate option and provide the plate and issuing state.
- Review the result for an open safety recall and follow the contact or scheduling instructions. For a Toyota, Lexus, or Subaru Solterra, you can also use the relevant manufacturer’s official recall information or ask an authorized dealer to check the VIN.
A model-year list can help you decide to check, but only the vehicle-specific lookup can confirm whether a particular vehicle has an open remedy.

What repair is required, and what does it cost?
The prescribed remedy is a dealer software update for the PVM’s Parking Assist ECU. Toyota says Toyota and Lexus dealers will perform the update at no cost to customers; NHTSA’s recall notice also describes a free software update. Contact an authorized dealer to arrange the recall repair and confirm availability for the specific vehicle. This is a software remedy, not a direction to buy an aftermarket camera or attempt a do-it-yourself software repair.

Until the recall repair is completed, do not rely on the rearview-camera display as your only way to see behind the vehicle. Check the area directly and use mirrors and other safe means of observation when reversing. If the display freezes or stays blank, stop when safe and proceed only when you can confirm the path is clear.
